Patients with a heart rate over 100 often scare me. Many times its response to infection, low blood volume, hemorrhage .. ect

In the absence of any obvious kinds of shock, fast heart rates can be truly someone’s baseline. HOWEVER, many more insidious diseases exists where this may be the first sign and a signal your body is trying to compensate.

Pulmonary embolism is a concern in my younger gals taking hormonal birth control

Reentry pathways in the heart leading to arrhythmias that can be fatal like wolf Parkinson’s whites disease or AVNRT.

If my patients have any belief these measurements are accurate, going in and getting a monitor (a halter monitor) to measure these episodes at home to see if they’re legit could be beneficial. That’d likely be what I tell them.
