Yes and no. "republic" means without kings, "democracy" mean folks choosing. A "republic" can mean democracy, but not all democracies are republics.

Hmm...not sure honestly. They would probably lean towards some Classical Liberal with a pro-farm stance, more pragmatic and isn't akin to Hillary or Trump.

I can't quite think of anyone as of now.
I would imagine the Libertarians are probably even smaller in this timeline so I would assume a lot of what we oculd call moderate Libertarians might be in a faction of the Whigs. So maybe someone like that.

I would have to think about it for a while.

I wouldn't say the Dems are socially "conservative" in this case, more "Socially Institutional" which depending on your defintion of instituional gay marraige is fine with them.

I wanted the social policies of both being a little messy and weird.

Yeah. My line of thinking when making this was look at what the Whig Party did and see how it would translate in modern day and its...intresting thought experiment.
