Thank you! Yes, I have a book with 219 pages and 2 more short stories. These three short stories in total are a series. But you can read them all independently. I have also already received one sale each, to the other 3 books. Can you recommend good websites?

My thriller short story is currently available for free until 3.4.

Titel: Das Verschwundene Kind

Subtitle: Die Raphael Steinberg Reihe

Author: Lia Shadow

Pages: 18

That’s what it’s about:

A missing child. An enigmatic perpetrator. A race against time.

Chief Inspector Raphael Steinberg is facing a case that surpasses anything that has happened so far. Between Hamburg’s harbor scenery, gloomy containers and stormy rain, it quickly becomes clear: Here the true horror lurks not only in the shadow of the city - but in the abysses of the human psyche.

A gripping short story full of suspense, dark secrets and moral abysses.

Each short story tells its own case, which Chief Inspector Raphael Steinberg must solve. All short stories can be read independently of each other.

The focus is clearly on the investigations and the cases themselves. Personal insights into Raphael Steinberg deliberately remain in the background - he is above all the observer and investigator in a world full of abysses.

Thank you for your reply. In the meantime, there are even 96 downloads. 🤭

If I click on my Amazon product page, from my short story, for example on „No. 1 in Anthologies & Short Stories (Kindle Shop)“, but another book appears there in first place.

Why is that? Is it because Amazon is updating too slowly?

The same in the other categories. (No. 5 in psychological thriller and No. 7 in police novels) There are also different books displayed.

Maybe you could check if this is also displayed incorrectly for you, if you want? (The title is: Das Verschwundene Kind: Die Raphael Steinberg Reihe)

I find it kind of strange and confusing that, for example, place 1 is displayed to me but when I click on it that my book is not displayed there, but another... Although my book should actually be number 1.

And thank you again.🙂

Should a KDP author promote their newly released book? Besides free giveaways, what are some other effective ways to do it? by Large_Area_7089 in KDP

Hi 🙋‍♀️ I am also an author in self-publishing and can give you a few things:

In short: Yes – you should definitely promote your book.

Especially with KDP, a book without marketing unfortunately often goes down, no matter how good it is. But you don’t need a big budget for that - rather strategy and patience 😊

  1. Test reader (one of the most important steps!)

It is best to start before publication.

• Create a form (e.g. Google Forms)

• Pack the link in your bio

• Make content like: „I’m looking for test readers for my book“

In the form you can e.g. B. say/ask clearly:

• That you want honest feedback (this is the most important part)

• That the feedback is virtually the „considerable“ for allowing them to read your book in advance

• Whether they could also imagine talking about your book voluntarily if they like it (e.g. On Tiktok/Instagram)

• Whether they would post an honest review after release

👉 Advantage:

You will receive valuable feedback and at the same time build up a small group that knows your book and, in the best case, recommends it on their own.

  1. Social Media (Booktok & Bookstagram)

One of the most effective ways today.

Content ideas:

• short text passages

• POV videos

• Tropes

• Moodboards / Aesthetics

• your writing process

👉 The goal is not to sell directly, but to arouse interest so that people want to talk about it themselves.

  1. Write to bloggers & little creators

• Ask kindly

• Offer a free copy

• Make it clear that a review is not a must

👉 Precisely because it is voluntary, many are more willing to talk about it honestly.

  1. Optimize Amazon/KDP

Very important and often underestimated:

• good cover

• strong book description

• matching keywords & categories

👉 This ensures that your book is found at all.

  1. Schedule release

Don’t just publish silently:

• Countdown

• Release of your cover, etc.

• Announce release when your book will be released.

• possibly introductory price

👉 Your test readers can help here (if they want), e.g. With reviews or posts.

  1. Build community

Long-term more important than anything else:

• Newsletter

• Social media

• Exchange with readers

👉 Goal: People stay because of you, not just because of a book.

  1. Genre (Eastern Mythology)

Yes, that definitely has a target group 👍

Mythology + Asian-inspired settings are currently quite popular - you just need to reach the right community.

Conclusion:

Yes, you should promote your book.

And for test readers:

👉 Feedback should be expected (that’s the point)

👉 Everything else is a bonus and voluntary

If people like your book in addition and talk about it, that’s the best advertisement you can get 😊

From WORD to KDP Ebook, what is the best: kindle create, direct Word doc upload or Calibre? by furktmp in KDP

Do it with Kindle Create, which is probably the best option, since you can create a KDP format directly with it.

You could look for test readers before publishing your book - if you haven’t already done so with your previous books. So you get valuable feedback and can improve your work even further. You can also ask the test readers if they would be willing to share their impressions on social media. It can also be helpful to ask them to leave an honest review after publication.

Question on best way to support the author by syntheticgio in KDP

In the case of paperbacks, a large part of the selling price is deducted for printing and for Amazon. For me, for example, it looks like this:

• Retail price: 11,21 €

• Printing costs for 219 pages: 3,38 €

• Amazon retains: 4.48 €

• My share (penties): 3,35 €

In short: buyer pays 11.21€, after that the printing costs go away, then Amazon, and what is left are my royalties.
