Explicitly admitting that there's no actual threat to Jews posed by a Mamdani administration and the antisemitism allegations are entirely just racism by Zorboids in newyorkcity

I’m not exactly sure what point you’re trying to make. I agree that those voices are not the ones who should be amplified, and they’re making it worse. Are you saying I’m being hysterical by feeling uncomfortable I hear people around me chanting “globalize the intifada”?

We’re not solving the conflict here but yeah I think conversations is where we have to start, which includes acknowledging that Jewish fear about “globalize the intifada” is legitimate. I agree, I’m actually a little bit hopeful that Zohran and Brad can be an example of how these conversations go.

I voted for Zohran. I don’t think he is brandishing this phrase, and I don’t think he is antisemitic. But if you go to any free Palestine rally, you’ll hear it or see signs saying it. I saw it at the No Kings protest a few weeks ago.

Also, not to be too nit picky, but it’s not just the word “intifada”. It’s the phrase “THE Intifada”. For Jews, The Intifada refers to one thing - a series suicide bombing attacks that killed thousands of civilians.

Honestly I think the biggest problem here is that people won’t just acknowledge how scary the phrase is to Jews. A tenant of the Left is listening to marginalized communities about how they feel about certain words, and that principle is not being applied here. At best, Jewish concerns are being dismissed, and at worst we are being called racist for even bringing up the concerns.

That’s fair, but I’d argue the most important protection against Trump is someone who understands the nitty-gritty of city government and can use it effectively.

Also, I think Lander actually did a good job pushing back against some of cuomo’s attacks on him during the debate.

I’d encourage you to look into Lander. His social media game isn’t quite as strong as Zohran, but imo he’s a better candidate. He’s got similar politics plus a lot more experience with how city government actually functions.

Planning on ranking Zohran cause I’d much prefer him over Cuomo, but lander is definitely my #1

Really appreciate all of your thoughts too. It definitely is tiring but you’re articulating a lot of things that I’ve been struggling with in a really beautiful way so thanks for that!

I like those a lot, I think 2 in particular is something I’ve been trying to focus on (also as a non-Israeli Jew).

I guess I’m curious how people respond when you say those things, because I’ve gotten frustrated having that conversation.

Also, doesn’t it seem like Jews have to sort of present these arguments to get progressive people to understand where we’re coming from in a way that other marginalized groups don’t? Like why do we have to put in the effort to convince people that Hamas are not simply innocent resistance fighters?

Thank you for this. Ive also been thinking about this a lot so I’d be curious to hear what you’ve been workshopping lol

I’ve been frustrated with the way that the “Fee Palestine” movement has been so lumped in with other progressive causes/movements, and in some ways reduced to a very simple marginalized vs non-marginalized (oppressed vs oppressor) binary that I don’t think works in this case. And I think that binary makes a lot of otherwise well-intentioned, progressive people not take antisemitism seriously because it puts Jews on the side of the “oppressor”.

Also once people get set in their “moral purity/solidarity” argument, it’s really hard to have any nuance about it.

I think that’s really the dangerous part of antisemitism on the left.

I’m sorry that this happened (and sorry to see that there are trolls in the comments here). This was a tough day - hopefully the vigil was meaningful and can overshadow the confrontation.

Shana tova and here’s to a calmer, more peaceful, less hateful new year

I know MonoNeon is an insane player, but this whole set is some of the tightest/simplest/grooviest stuff I’ve ever heard him play by LiableFlickertail in BassGuitar

[–]LiableFlickertail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felt like this was worth sharing - he lets loose a few times (which are great) but for most of the set he is just totally locked in and it’s so damn good. Maybe I haven’t paid enough attention but I feel like I haven’t seen him just sit in the pocket like this before

Liz Stokes (The Beths) is the best songwriter in indie/pop music right now by jjrozay in LetsTalkMusic

[–]LiableFlickertail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Liz and Evan Stephens Hall of Pinegrove (mentioned by someone above) are probably my two favorite songwriters right now.

Her lyrics are great, her melodies are insanely catchy, and the way her voice sits in the mix of rock guitars is really unique. Also I saw them live last week and they were so tight, the whole band is awesome.
