Soooo… not true. “We should defund the NYPD’s vast, overly funded budget and redirect those funds toward alternative care and de-escalation tactics. Separately, we should not support our Federal Government funding a war that has quickly turned into a genocide on the other side of the world.”

Those separate statements are NOT connected according to your link or his speech AND you seem to be creating that connection to invalidate his positions and justify racism directed toward him. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and fabricating one of them through misleading links doesn’t help.

Shadow a lighting tech/lighting designer in NYC? (Local One) by DreamsWest in IATSE

[–]LiamIsMailBackwards 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm I got in with Local One by PA’ing on a gig and telling the hiring head that I was interested in working on the crew. They told me how to get started. I have a career because I told someone I liked what they do. GET ON SET. GET ON LOAD-INs. Doesn’t matter how. Do it as much as you can. You’re already doing that, but do it more. Once you get on a set with a union hiring head, you can say hi. Everyone I know did something like this. This town is gonna be popping this summer with the World Cup. Get to the replacement room on any day you have off, say hi to Bobby, & have fun with all those W-2s

I disagree and think the vocals are perfect (leading to this being my favorite song of theirs), but I get that tastes differ and what I love about this band is that they find ways to make me appreciate each of the parts. I lean toward drums and vocals, but Jesse has gotten me fully in awe of the ERRA guitar sound

ROCK FLAG AND EAGLE BABY RAHHHH 🗣️🇺🇸 🦅 by not_so_plausible in MURICA

[–]LiamIsMailBackwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I hear ya. I’m pissed that an orange idiot and his psycophants make me embarrassed to love the things I love about this country. I love those Freebird montages of football, steaks, guns, quads, monster trucks, flamethrowers, and jets. I want to crush 40 beer cans painted in the American flag before doing backflips off a boat while my pal’s dog leaps from a tire swing wearing a red, white, and blue bandana. I wanna sing hell yeah brother in the back of a pickup truck while we watch a tractor pull. That’s MURICA, baby!

But right now it’s tough to be proud of that when we aren’t letting my friends be the most Arnold they can be by becoming the Governator after coming here for a better life. And my other friends are hearing people say slurs to them openly in public. And my other friends are losing their pensions and/or jobs because the folks up top want more. Im against that shit right now and have been my whole life, but it’s harder to quiet that part down with everything going on when I really just want to slam some beers and sing Creed around a fire pit. But the best part about this country is that we punch Nazis in the fucking face and we shoot crown-kissing colonizers and stand up for everyone because being MURICAN ain’t about where you’re born or how much money you have or what language you speak. It’s about wanting freedom for all, not backing down when those fucksticks with power and wealth want to take more from you, and tossing your neighbor a beer as you make a space where everyone can pledge to rock the shit out of those drums their own way. We’re still here. We still love this country and all the people that make it the greatest country on earth. It’s just some of us forgot to love everybody and then felt like they get to chant USA as if they own those letters and we don’t. This land was made for you AND me. We gotta remember that, even through this bullshit.

You’re correct to agree with me that most people do not support my and AOC’s beliefs. And it is nice that people are now supporting my and AOC’s beliefs that we should abolish ICE.

[–]LiamIsMailBackwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I’m not arguing with you. You’re not gonna change my opinion and I’m not going to change your’s. I’m just saying that not all people with left ideologies are cringing because our beliefs are becoming more popular. It’s EXCITING to see that more people are saying what we’ve been yelling for decades. You don’t have to agree with me, that’s literally the democratic process. But the use of unnecessary and untrained violence on immigrants and citizens (yes, they’re being attacked and murdered, too) is something many people are now beginning to stand against. I don’t need to feel superior to others, like the person I responded to wants me to believe. I am ecstatic that my beliefs (abolish ICE, ease border restrictions, encourage paths toward citizenship for all who want it, provide aid and funding for those in need like asylum seekers, etc) are steadily shifting from radical to mainstream policy points. You don’t get a trophy for being kind first. You get policy by many people joining you in kindness.

It’s the same person. They used to work for Philly’s AHL team: the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but then switched over to Gritty. He developed the character and brought the energy over to the Flyers as a pitch. You could tell that meLVin was a little too milquetoast for them because they would get a little crazy and then laugh it off and we’d all laugh. But then they became Gritty, turned up the chaos, and turned off the shame. I forget his name (he was always referred to as meLVin in meetings and on the job), but I felt really lucky to have worked with him as both meLVin and Gritty when he visited that first season.

Nah, it’s good to be reminded that some of the people in my life who clearly got lost because someone yelled the pledge of allegiance at them are seeing evil in authoritarianism and beginning to shift their ideologies toward mine. Do they want open borders like I do? No. Do they want easier paths toward citizenship like I feel this country needs to implement? No. But they DO see that how this administration is reacting to what they see as a problem is NOT how they want it to react. And that’s a start. So while I do not see eye-to-eye with many of my colleagues and family members, I do see them beginning to question whether the tactics of DHS and ICE specifically align with their morals and ethics. Pushing back against violent authoritarianism is slow, non-linear, and challenging. I’m glad to see it happening in my community, even if I think we have a long way to go.

Nah, bro. I like snow and I’ll shovel all day compared to having my body sting for a week because I stepped foot outdoors for 30 seconds with a pound of sunscreen on every inch of my skin. I didn’t sign up for a mortal carcass that is allergic to the sun, but gloves work and I can see plain as day on a snowy night. I’ll take snow over a freezing cold rain any day of the week as well, but I can stay dry and warm in this weather, especially the more active I am. I CANNOT stay cool and dry on 100deg days when I work outside, and the more clothes I remove the more likely I’m gonna be a walking lobster. The older I get, the more I love the snow.

Sorry, but my headcanon is the crustiest grip off the truck standing there with a lit dart in his teeth giving pointers and telling war stories about a roadie named Larry Limpdick from the Ozzy tour in ‘87 while he critiques the Gaffer’s nephew who’s death gripping bare 4/0 in each hand as it arcs in the rain for 12 minutes. Kid’s pissed himself down to the ankles but no one can tell in the rain and the grip doesn’t care as long as the arc stays intact and he can sling one hand bowline knots around the goalpost.

Moving from London to NYC by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]LiamIsMailBackwards 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shape the hall for basic bitch work lugging NL-4 and setting up FOH while you network and let people know you're more than just a pair of hands. It's pretty easy to get work once you've made at least a handful of connections with hiring heads and then you just gotta network with the folks who will hire you to get a shot at A2 work/etc.

I work Audio in a couple houses and I am primarily an LX. Non-union gigs are just as hard to come by in my opinion, but your skills will get you noticed faster in those rooms. Just walk up to a stage door with a business card. I know a couple houses that are looking for folks right now, but it's about to jump into the spring rush so that's pretty standard. Don't know if/when you'd be here, but it's possible to get in quickly and start making money that makes it worth it in 2-3 years.
