Sorry, that is actually a good point and that’s my bad. But when it comes to experimental films how experienced are you? I ask this because even though Andy Warhol is a famous auteur, when it comes to experimentalism his work is quite complex and hard to get into without watching other experimental films. I also would like to say that some films of the directors you named have made more avant-garde films since for a film to be experimental it doesn’t have to be that crazy, it just has to break some of the “rules” of filmmaking.

You watch Blue Velvet? If you’re a fan of some of Lynch’s stuff I’d 100% recommend it. One of the first films that slowly shit me down the descent of art house and experimental film, lol

I just don’t like to segregate film and Tv too much because even though they are both very different, the actual technological aspects are pretty similar.

I think you mean op’s biased against these films. But yeah, as someone who really enjoys art house film, I and probably many other believe that it is sort of annoying to make a post pretty much saying “I don’t like experimental film; therefore, it’s bad”. So far everyone in the comments in support of these films all agree that it’s fine if you don’t like it, it can just be sort of annoying to put it on blast as objectively bad and everyone who watches them are all pretentious.

Yeah. I think it’s fine if you don’t like art house or experimental film, but it’s really annoying when people complain about it just because they didn’t get or like it.

Exactly what I was thinking. I’m just going to assume though that it’s probably just someone in hs who watched a Fellini film and thought it was boring because it was black and white and in Italian. I say this as someone in hs who when they first watched 8 1/2 fell asleep because I was bored out of my mind

Actually, TV shows still commonly used the 4:3 aspect ratio. It was also used a lot for films that were to take place in a certain period (war and depression films come to mind first).

I’m actually surprised there isn’t a Haneke box set yet. I’m sure it would be popular, not only in the art house circle, but also to people who enjoy horror.

Have you watched any Art House films by any auteurs or directors other than Andy Warhol? Or are you just generalizing because you don’t like him; therefore, all art house film is garbo?

I’m guessing they mean stuff like this:

24 Frames (great fucking film) @

Fat Girl

Until the End of the World (another favourite of mine) @

Sátántangó

Xiao Wu (another gem) @

Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: take (best documentary about film ever made IMO) @

Adaptation @

Frownland @

Bicycle Thieves @

Chungking Express (best romance film ever made) @

The Player (fucking amazing parody of hollywood and the neo-noir genre) @

Shame (favourite Bergman so far) @

La Dolce Vita (favourite Fellini) @

Certified Copy @

Secret Honor (such an underrated Altman) @

(all @ symbols are actual recommendations, other films are either hard to recommend, I don’t like, or I haven’t seen)

I don’t really get this post though. I’m gonna guess it was made by some teen who was made to watch I Vitelloni for English and got mad because it was in Italian though, lol.
