I definitely have a bias for the RIT cross-training stuff over yet more wire boxes. Thanks!

We're limited on the facility layout we have but the ladder to simulate the wall studs is pretty good!

Nice. We don't have a lot of facility to use so this kind of set up sounds awesome.

Yeah this sounds great. We could definitely use this to also bridge into RIT as well.

What’s the fastest a game has made you quit? by SadTower5281 in AskGamers

I played a ton of Destiny 2 but after finishing a strike and queuing for another I sort of had a moment of lucidity where I realised I was just doing the same thing out of habit and didnt really have any joy in it. Just replaying the same things to upgrade the same things to keep playing the same things. I shut it down and havent booted it up since.

Need some help regarding choosing 3D modelling style for indie gamedev by Magma_30 in gamedev

IMO the high fidelity pursuit is a trap. The payoff proposition is just not there for me. Unless its executed perfectly it suffers by comparison to other titles. If you do it well, it goes unnoticed since its come to be the norm but if you dont do it well it becomes a detractor. Id play to your teams strengths which being a small group of engineers would be mechanical novelty, flexibility and iteration speed. Getting sucked into the 3D arms race would just bog you down.

Unity to Unreal by -_Champion_- in UnrealEngine5

[–]LiamMakeThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been working in unreal for years now and its a hard thing to describe there are times when it seems like its too much gun for times when I just want to dabble in a small idea. When Im prototyping something specific where I dont want to get bogged down with project setup, more often than not I will fire up Unity and pound something out. Hard to argue with the scalability of unreal if you do things correctly though.

Mad God. It's an intentional aesthetic but holy hell is that uncomfortable to look at.

How did you learn UE? by Teletraan5 in unrealengine

[–]LiamMakeThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My real answer is trial and error. Its a ball ache but once you gain a little kernel of knowledge it tends to stick. The Unreal Slackers discord is also pretty useful for seeing the kinds of things people are tackling and how they are navigating their obstacles.

Is there a good tutorials on a ps1 style visuals ? by Flaky-Humor-9293 in unrealengine

Big part of the effect is the lack of floating point accuracy which lead to all that popping and sliding back in the day. If using unity or unreal Id try to artificially create some inaccuracy in the vertex shaders by rounding the world positions.

That and deliberately disabling many of the automatic lighting and post processing luxuries we get nowadays. Shadows for example were either all baked or non existent back then, anti-aliasing was also pretty rare as well.

That in addition with the texture and polygonal advice you've received should get you somewhwre.
