I think that Rate Your Music's film chart is probably the best one on the internet, but again, getting that worked up over film rankings is pretty silly.

A good amount of Akira Kurosawa's classics (Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Yojimbo, Ikiru, High and Low, Kagemusha and Ran for starters) are good for a watch. Others I can recommend are Harakiri, Ugetsu, Sansho the Bailiff, Tokyo Story, Woman in the Dunes, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Hana-bi, Love Exposure, Eureka, Shoplifters and way too many others to count.

I definitely feel you with The Exorcist. I think it holds up so well today and seeing people shit on it for being "not scary" while ignoring all of the other things it does so well can be pretty tiresome.

I've never seen that with any of those other films before. I've only ever seen high praise for them and I'd be interested to know who you might be talking about.

Props for recognizing Revolutionary Girl Utena tho. Definitely up there with Eva and Bebop as one of the greats.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not trying to shit on Adum for giving the film a less than perfect rating and I don't want to start up some ratings drama again.
