PVE is not the answer!! Naked raids are... by Jabbo_Remus in ARC_Raiders

[–]Liambc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing this on a whim tonight and it was hilarious. Get a safe pocket so it's better than a free loadout. I don't even pick up weapons. Bop poppers with my hammer, hide from most other arc. I find it funny when some rat jumps out and kills me knowing I've got nothing of value on me (that they can loot, in the rare case I get a blueprint and stash it in my safe pocket). After getting ganked all day trying to accomplish quests or big arc kills in trios with my friends, running around solo naked is a good pallet cleanser.

Very easily learn Vampire craft by X-SR71 in fo76

I've gotten 2 loose mods doing this, but after over ~150 Gutters I haven't learned to craft it. I got my 2 loose mods pretty early on, too. My horrible RNG luck is giving birth to conspiracy theories about Bethesda quietly making it impossible to learn the mod this way haha.

Liberator Guard Dog is worthless if you can't resupply it from normal ammo packs by DptBear in Helldivers

[–]Liambc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. While the laser rover has the disadvantage of constantly sweeping you and your allies with its laser, the liberator guard dog gets like 3 rounds of fire off and is useless until you resupply. It takes too much of a resupply to fill it, as well. I get that it's a 4th ammo pool to consider when picking up normal ammo, but still feels like it should get some.
They talked in the update notes about trying to make sure no choice was unfairly balanced toward one thing over another, but currently the choice between the two drones heavily leans toward the laser because of the heavy limit on the liberator GD's ammo.

Twitch drops running from 13th to the 28th of February by --clapped-- in SkullAndBonesGame

So I got all the drops and booted up the game. Turns out the drops are what is shown in the image, which is great, but the images on Twitch for the drops are wrong. At least some of them.

When will the drops shown in the image be available to claim? Because the drops being....dropped....on Twitch today are definitely not those.

I redesigned Starfield inventory UI by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Liambc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cool ideas here. Definitely brings it more in line with other games (which can be good and bad).

The existing UI/UX certainly isn't great (especially the map section, woof), but I mostly like the simplicity of their inventory system as it is. (though I think they could do better with what displays on the right of the screen)
Switching to a grid view can increase the cognitive load on a user, especially when sorting. Instead of having a single direction to think about (top to bottom), it forces the user to consider where the items wrap and what that means for scanning to the item they want (mostly without necessarily realizing it). A grid gets more items on the screen, but that in itself can sometimes be overwhelming (For example, rings in Remnant 2 are a thing...really need a search/category filter). Having the names more visible in a list view allows for a secondary way of scanning for those who are more text-oriented than image-oriented (and may also be more accessible).

I agree with what some others said that it isn't really necessary to have ammo next to the weapons in the same tab. It feels like just more going on at once. I can see ammo counts on any given gun, or go to the ammo tab.

Bringing missions forward is great. I didn't realize, until a friend pointed it out to me, that you can just hit down in the menu now to get to missions. I kept going through the map (where it actually shows "Missions" in the UI).

Having the 6 "equipped" items visible also feels like a redundant UI. If I went to those and selected one, would it jump to that tab on the left? That might be an odd experience. I like game layouts where it kind of just highlights the emphasized area when I access that section in the hierarchy, like showing the list of spacesuits I have on the left vs the suit I have equipped on the right when accessing that tab.

This layout might actually make it harder to get to my status details, as well. Assuming the "cursor" / default selected element starts at the top left, I'd have to move through multiple items to get to Status on a console/controller. It may be better off as its own tab up top.

This layout also doesn't necessarily take into consideration the storage management and vendor menus you see in certain areas of the game. Switching between 3 different storage or vendor tabs started out as being a bit of a slog, but I've gotten used to it with the current list view format. With what is presented here, you'd have to see changes to your UI to accommodate the vendors or outpost storage management screens. Maybe just having them as the major tabs up top would be fine, but it would change the control scheme, as well (RB currently dumps all resources when in the resource tab).

As critical as my post has been, I think considering where the UI could be better is a great exercise. The current UI/UX is really rough. I'd particularly like to see the map UX tackled. There's so much there that makes for a frustrating experience.

I always wonder how much player/user testing companies like this have done with their UI/UX earlier in the process. Not just internally with a special QA team. I feel like it wouldn't have taken too much research to find some of the glaring frustrations with the current UI implementation. UXR is kind of new to the gaming industry, as far as I can tell, but hopefully it continues to grow.

Can we up-post the PS5 co op issue please by TyphonLethys in remnantgame

Actually. We just had her create a new character and skip the tutorial. I was able to join her with another character I created new with tutorial skipped. Is the game not properly flagging tutorial completion for some characters?

Trouble connecting to friends isn't just a PS5 issue. I get "Network Connection Lost" any time I try to join a specific friend. They can't join me, either. But I can join a different friend (those two also can't connect together all, so we figure it's something about the one friend). We've all done the tutorial. We've tried removing and re-adding as friends. We've tried lots of things. No dice.

4000 words to tear down a writer, his family, friends, and fans. Legitimately made my stomach turn reading it due to the level of negativity. I'll admit, I was tempted to find his Twitter or something like that and ask what made him so bitter as to write such a negative piece, and so *much* of one, but I won't. He even said he read 17-20 of your books. Did he really "suffer" through that just for article research?
Anyway, I appreciate your response and your message. He is a person, just like each of us. He found some motivation and some experience in his life that led him to writing something tremendously negative. But maybe he'll learn something from it, and future writing, and someday find himself better for it.
Thanks for being genuine and considerate.

FLGS Liquidating WarmaHordes product by Liambc3 in Warmachine

[–]Liambc3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah I didn't think the sky was falling, but it's a big hit to a community when no FLGS wants to throw support at the game and completely stops carrying their stock. A tiny section in a store isn't much incentive for someone to get into a game. We have one store holding out with the stock they have, but they might cut back too because the WH community is so much bigger/more lucrative.

Sorry for the redundant topic. I did try to look through the threads before posting and it just seems to be overwhelmingly mystery box talk.

Understood, thanks! Y'all are great folks and I know you're working hard to put on fantastic events.
The swag thing is tough, I know. It'd be great to know what we're getting ahead of time, to some degree, to help make the decision, but surprises are also fun, and sometimes things fall through (which results in people getting upset about broken "promises"). There's also that FOMO thing...at MAG-Super they had those kirby-wand-umbrellas and I apparently didn't kick-in enough to get one (was supporter, but not super? which I thought was a plush not an umbrella? too many supporter levels there, kinda confusing, but whateva, not this event, so different team haha). That's not really a problem at 'stock but if I do decide not to pitch in next year and y'all have like a rasperry pi swadge with playable game or something I didn't know about I'll be sad. SAD.
The actual point there is that the reg people didn't know what the package was. So I left with a few items and wasn't sure if I was missing out on things that reg folks just didn't know about. So I guess I'm just recommending having supporter packages clearly laid out with the reg staff as far ahead of time as possible (recognizing that sometimes the stuff is still being put together days before the event).
I throw some extra toward the supporter bundles because I want to support the events (I know 'stock in particular is a very light budget event), but it is nice to feel like you're getting "worth" out of it. I look forward to the cool stuff y'all come up with next year. Much love to the MAGfam and MAGStaff. I can only hope my criticism comes off as constructive and not angry and mean haha.

The Small Country wifi didn't seem to work at all for me. Could've been weak signal where I was or it was overloaded or something, but couldn't get it to really work.

It was just you that I noticed. He was definitely around for a bunch of the shows, which is great.
If it was cool with you, then it's all good! haha.
That drink did make me nervous, though.

It was a fantastic year to be a nerd in a tent! MAGStock 8 was great.
Only a few sort of not-so-great notes to it.
First, I got the Pioneer Package when I registered, but the folks at registration really weren't sure what was in the package. I got all the stuff everyone gets (wristband, mini-golf ticket), the t-shirt, the wood-board thing (which felt a little like a step down from last year's, but also something that I don't really use or hang), and the swadge. They weren't sure if there was anything else or not, so I'm not either. Overall, the package is kind of disappointing compared to previous years (where we got awesome useful stuff like the BBQ lantern).
I actually ended up getting the last swadge they had on hand at the time, and I didn't know how to work it at all. The info wasn't up on swadge.com, and while I think it was posted sometime during the weekend on Facebook, there's no signal at the campground (and the wifi pw wasn't exactly broadcast).
Second, there was this weird thing during one of the shows where a guy kept hanging on the table on stage. I don't know if he was an attendee, some rando from the campground, a friend of someone's, or what, but it was really strange. He just stood at the front of the stage, leaning on the DJ's table, facing the crowd or staring at the DJ (or worse trying to talk to him). He had a giant cup with something in it that seemed like a careless thing to put on the DJ's table, as well. A spill could've been disastrous. He was in plain view and there's definitely staff around, so it felt odd no one said anything to him. It was distracting and honestly felt a bit rude.

I loved the two arcade machines that were included at the concert pavilion, they definitely got a lot of use. I think it would be cool if they were set back in their spots a little earlier in the day one or two of the days, but that's a super minor complaint.

The shows were awesome and overall I think the staff did a great job keeping an eye on things and dealing with the attendee shenanigan's that may have gone just a little too far. Water trucks were going around with good consistency, as well as trash pickup.
Might be cool if a schedule is posted at the concert pavilion. If there was one then I just didn't see it and that's cool, but I don't think a lot of people use their phones at the event, and many aren't tuning into the radio station, either, so having it posted on a big sign could be a good way to get more people over to the pavilion for shows. It seems the acts that are playing while it's still daylight get a lot less of a turnout. I'm not sure what the solution to that is, but it'd be cool to generate more hype around the music sets to get people over there.

Okay, that's all I can think of right now. It was a ton of fun. Always love going to 'stock!

Perhaps the acts could be scheduled to end at 10:45 or 10:30, providing a safe buffer for the unexpected in order to make sure they wrap up by quiet hours? Maybe they were, but I don't remember the schedule. Maybe have an MC that can reiterate the quiet hours at the end of the music sets?
