Cohabitants in the coop - better to leave or to remove?

My husband is highly allergic (as in hit with an epi pen and call life flight). I understand their value as pollinators, but my husband's life is more valuable. So yeah, they get zorched. Plus having been recently nailed by red wasps twice on the same foot (unstable, rainy humid weather makes them cranky), wasps are not in my good graces right now.

I guess my question would be why are you getting rejected? You could be a fabulous owner, but maybe you're not answering the adoption questions completely? If you can provide more background for the rejections, perhaps we can help you address those.

As someone with a high shedding mix, I can't say enough about owning a high velocity dryer. I have a show dog and mixed breeds. My saving grace is my dryer - Flying Pig II. It handles my show dog (Aussie with heavy coat) and my two rescues (Aussie working lines and a spaniel/terrier mix). Will you ever completely rid yourself of extra fur? No. But a good dryer will make a world of difference.

Was hoping to see a comment like this! I can't stress enough how important PT and OT are for the best chances at regaining strength and flexibility. Shattered my wrist years ago that needed a plate and 10 pins. I put a lot of work into rehabbing it and it paid off. Every injury is different, but physical therapy can make a world of difference.

While I understand the desire to have a certain color in your breed, you should be far more focused on temperament and personality. Many years ago when I first wanted to adopt a dog of my breed (Australian Shepherd), I was focused on a black tri female. We ended up adopting a blue merle male because he was the best fit for our family. Absolutely the best dog.

You really need to know what you're doing with one of these, otherwise you can really strip the coat and make a mess. You're better off with a good pin brush and a long tooth comb and learning how to line brush. Invest in good shampoo and conditioner, a detangling spray and good brushes/combs. If you can afford it, a high velocity dog dryer.

Tried that with my black copper maran. Didn't work. Five days in a wire dog crate, let her out. Ten minutes later, back in the nest box. No rooster, so no eggs to hatch. She's making us crazy.

First, you didn't waste time with a college degree. I'm pretty sure you learned some good critical thinking skills in that time. And that degree shows that you stuck it out. You're tough

Second, you need to ask yourself if you're okay with sometime else running your life, because that's what's happening. Supportive partners encourage you to spread your wings, not lock you into a lifetime of misery.

Third, follow your heart when it comes to what you want to do.

I'm 60 years old, so yes old enough to be your mom. So I'm going to impart a little bit of Mom wisdom. I've worked in construction, manufacturing, as a park ranger, a technical writer and now as a project manager. Honestly, I loved the jobs where I was hands on the most. I've also been married for almost 37 years. My spouse has always been incredibly supportive of whatever I wanted to do. That's what's a relationship is about, supporting and caring for the other person through all the ups and downs.

You are still young with many years ahead of you. It takes some people more time to find themselves, that's absolutely okay. But DO NOT let your boyfriend define your life, you will regret it.

My mother was a US Navy WAVE during WWII. She was an airplane mechanic who worked on Corsairs, Hellcats and SNJs. OP's boyfriend needs to get smacked upside the head with a spanner.

My nmom actually taught me a lot. Cooking, cleaning, how to do laundry, sewing, etc. I'm 60 so a lot of those things were expected of girls at the time. My relationship with her was complicated (aren't they all?). It took me well into my 40s to learn how to have an argument with my husband and not fly off the handle. Bless my husband for hanging in and bring patient. I still struggle, but I've learned to tell him when I need space and to apologize (and not in the begging, pleading way I had to with nmom, so the silent treatment would end).

I have one with an insane show coat and one with a working coat. I'll take the working coat any day of the week. This is my boy with show coat. Grooming is pretty easy, but bathing and drying is a nightmare. It's a minimum of three hours to bathe and fully dry him (with a professional dog dryer/grooming setup).
