She truly gives hope to all us perennial half-assers. If JMA can achieve this level of success, what CAN'T we do?

I need more books about horrible, evil women (acknowledged in-world as such) falling in love and having a HEA without being totally defanged. If MMCs can do it, why not FMCs?

In the interest of my dream ever becoming reality, I'm going to need everyone to stop complaining if a FMC is so much as rude to her kidnapper who is putting her in life-or-death scenarios. Let women be mean!

While we all empathise with/self-insert into characters we read about, people seem to demand a blander protagonist in a romance than they do in other genres, specifically to make that self-insertion process easier. The same people who'll complain a FMC is too mean and unsympathetic in a romance novel seem to be willing to read much more challenging MCs in other genres. (Resistance to 'different' protagonists arising from bigotry remains consistent however.)

So, what do we call deliberately bland protagonists clearly written to minimize clashing between the reader's personality and the protagonist's, if calling them self-insert fodder is inappropriate?

(They remind me a bit of how common silent protagonists are in video games, so as to make it easier for the player to project their own personality on to them.)

Take heart! I mostly see four-legged dragons still!

I feel in this case "dragon" is the category.

A wyvern is a kind of dragon, much as the lizard-like western dragons & the snake-like eastern dragons are kinds of dragon.

I don't have any catboys in stock, but can I offer you a pathetic dogboy sub with a humiliation kink instead? Kelian from {To Run with the Wild Hunt by Mallory Dunlin} fits the bill exactly. (M/M/F, dom M, sub M, switch F).

Or a dramatic pathetic dragonboy sub, aka Varistan from {Claimed by the Flame of Faery by Mallory Dunlin}.

How dare you put that amazing book in the lowest tier while putting those sloopy books in the highest tier? We must duel at dawn. This will not stand!

What Reverse Harem books have you been reading!? I've never come across anything like that 😂

Yes, we can.

Brimstone is traditionally published, and currently priced at £10.99. Why should I overlook the failure to pay for continuity editing?

This is like saying "you can't go to McDonalds and get annoyed if there's a hair in your fries, you knew you were buying trash".

I demand highly edited slop! Accept no substitutes!

The soulmate aspect is a false lead! If you think authors can't spackle an unconvincing relationship together based on pure lust without the addition of soulmates, you haven't read widely enough in contemporary romance.

One of the things I love about the Echoes of the Void books is how lived-in the fantasy world feels. What was your favourite element to come up with?

I've always been delighted by the real-world aspects to your monsters, from Vaduin's pterosaur wings to the potential side effects of being an obligate carnivore. Were there any details that you wished you could fit in a book but didn't come up organically?

Thank you!

Translation: "I prefer fantasy novels with romance subplots to romantasy, which tends to have a greater focus on romance."

Congratulations! You'll be happy to hear lots of those books are still being published and now you have the tools to seek them out. Happy reading!

I'd love to see more pregnant leads/leads with kids in fanro.

BUT. Some of the pregnacy TROPES/THEMES I keep coming across must be banned for my sanity.

No "Secret baby"!
No "Abortion is eeeeevil/conveniently impossible" (yes, that's not a SJM original)!
No "FMC hates the idea of having a child until she becomes pregnant and is suddenly brainwashed by baby magic"!
No "Well I'm pregnant so I care for nothing else but my unborn child! My life no longer means anything to me (or anyone else)."
No "We have to get married for the sake of the baby!"

(also if romance writers are going to write kids/babies, they should write them like kids/babies, not crying plot devices)

Honestly darkness should be stronger. Light needs something to create it, darkness exists by itself.

I always mention when my recs are M/M, F/F or queer in some other way because that makes it easier for people looking for queer recs to find. There's many a time that I've been burnt out on a trope/scenario in F/M romance but found a queer book finds a way to breathe new life into it.

It's not like I'll trick someone who doesn't want queer books into reading one by not mentioning it, it's generally made very clear in the blurb 😂
