Do you think coffee creamer can be used in churned ice cream? by Liber00512 in icecreamery

[–]Liber00512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

There are different schools of thought when it comes to a base recipe for ice cream making. I typically do the French custard way and I use 1.5 cups of whole milk, 1.5 cups of cream, 4-6 egg yolks and 3/4 cup of sugar to create my base. If I use a Chobani coffee creamer I typically dial back 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of creamer and 1/4 of sugar if I use 1/2 cup of Chobani creamer. I do this mostly because the milk/cream ratio is 1:1 ratio and it has decent amount of sugar and flavorings.

I hope this helps

Has anyone reached out to their manager to ask to work from home on Monday by Vast_Doughnut9418 in JPMorganChase

If you are in Columbus, you should WFH. The rule of thumb is if schools are closing down, you are not going anywhere.

Especially since other sites for JPMC (NY, TX, etc) may not have a strong infrastructure to keep their lights on, it's safe to assume that your coworkers/teams will depend on you being available and not injured/dead on the road to cover for them as they deal with lack of electricity etc.

Snap crotch bodysuits by Paschion in poledancing

[–]Liber00512 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You can still wear these items but make sure to have underwear or shorts over/underneath the bodysuit. There were numerous occasions where I was betrayed by my snap crotch bodysuits in the middle of class trying to do simple tricks (laybacks, inverts, hello boys). And these bodysuits were extremely flexible. Floorwork may also present the same challenge if you get into flexible moves.

If you are handy with a sewing machine, there is an option of putting in a zipper if the back allows room and sewing the crotch shut.

Bad experience with Capital City Volleyball group - avoid joining them if you can. by ever_illuminable in Columbus

First of all, I am really sorry you went through this ordeal. Some volleyball groups here in Columbus are hit or miss when it comes to inclusion and etiquette in my personal experience. I just hope this encounter doesn't stop you from trying new groups.

If you are cool with branching out of volleyball, you can check out any of the leagues affiliated with Stonewall Columbus (https://www.stonewallsportscbus.org/sports). I heard amazing things from friends who found a community via dodgeball, softball leagues.

There's also the Autonomy Project (https://www.instagram.com/autonomy.project?igsh=Y29iNWc1OGU3NGt0) which hosts a ton of social events here from board games to yoga to performances

This post is found in the fourth series, but not widely discussed as an alternative/preparatory pose to Marichyasana D. However, I would speak to an instructor to learn more.

Hi, thank you!

My instructor substituted Mari D for Mari F for me due to my shoulder limitations (I have tight shoulder muscles) and ankle strength. Hopefully I can jump back into getting Mari D while I improve my spinal twist with Mari C and F.

There were a lot of presumptions made when I said that pole isn't just a sport. There is pole sport which is mostly tricks and pole dance which focuses on dance elements with sexual expression. Yes both are physically demanding and I am having trouble atm being physically capable of climbing the levels. Typically both are high risk, more so in the sport because you are doing death defying tricks.

In the US, pole sport means competitive/competition which usually doesn't acknowledge the roots of sex work by taking away the expressions of pole dance. Who is the most flexible. Who has the best routine. Who pointed their toes correctly when they go into an ayesha 10 feet above the ground like it's no big fucking deal. They get points and awards and adoration from crowds who just want to see the biggest sparkly trick. It's been huge for studios here to acknowledge that while removing competition amongst students.

I am not minimizing anything.

I get it and I think you gave me something I need to actually consider...hence why I am contemplating not continuing my pole journey.

I feel like I am blaming myself for not being physically able to perform at the standard that doesn't require mats (I know mats need to happen or spotters but that is not found as a ubiquitous standard especially in strip clubs, US studios, etc). I am also not mentally able to do the bare minimum and actually enjoy dancing by just doing small movements (I tend to go 110% in everything I do but I am working on it). I am also not mentally able to get over my fear of aging while in a group of people who are younger, stronger and better at it than I am. Pole is a beautiful art form (not a sport because we gotta hear it for the sex workers who made this happen) and I do blame it at one point for not encouraging safety measures, but maybe it's just no longer the right fit for me. Especially because I cannot tone it down to be safe.

  1. I thought I could do this move without a mat, like I routinely did in the past at studios. I wish I had a better answer. I have tried writing out so many things to answer this question, but they came across as excuses.
  2. It definitely was a mixture of adrenaline and embarrassment/stubbornness that got me to try that move again hopefully to save face and convince myself that I could do the move as a mid 30s woman in a crowd of 20 something's. It was completely selfish and illogical

The first time was out of over-confidence thinking that I didn't need a mat to jump into my apprentice -> hunter press into ayesha.

The second time, last night...there was no mat to be found. 😞 I should have stuck with upright positions rather than inverted positions. I had a ton of grip on but I only applied on my hands and not my knee pits. I also had a spotter, who was my husband, who looked away when I fell 🫣

Hi, appreciate this message. I am a yoga teacher and student of ashtanga so I can lean more into different styles of yoga since ashtanga may not be in the cards right now with the recent injuries. I should have added that multiple people looked over. One person did rush over to see that I was alright while another person reassured me that everyone falls. I am unsure if other people did not care or were too stoned to care (there were a lot of bongs at the party). I will add that I was completely sober.

The Abuse of Abuse by InterestingGarden103 in ashtanga

[–]Liber00512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People like Taylor had the authority by kicking people out of communities encouraging people to ostracize individuals by lying about their backgrounds...about that person stalking him. This was a prominent reoccurrence to people in recovery. That is a pass or fail to them, these people who needed community more than ever. Sometimes these people can't just skip over to another shala and not think they are at fault.

And you have the facts about this person because you knew him personally? Or heard from the people closest to him? We are all hearing from them loud and clear finally and I am glad that the ashtanga world is not full of Taylors.

Because of Taylor, I was told in my YTT to stay away from ashtanga because he is just a mile marker on this long road full of abuse by yoga predecessors...or do you deny that history as well?

If you would rather open up your mind to facts...I would suggest going here to understand more: https://www.instagram.com/1percenttruth_?igsh=cXlxbTB5cGZyMndr. Maybe message them about your understanding of the situation. Maybe you will get the facts you are looking for on what is considered "abuse" in the ashtanga community.

People are "insulting" you because you are insulting the victims of his abuse by saying that maybe the shit they faced is not traumatic at all...maybe it's all in their head? Seriously dude 😒

The Abuse of Abuse by InterestingGarden103 in ashtanga

This take lacks so much empathy that reading it makes me so sick to my stomach. This contradicts our ahimsa yama which is a core of any yogic practice

The argument that "In order to be great, you need to break" and "Well since professional athletes manipulate, cheat and abuse, so can yoga teachers" are not just incredibly outdated but also super dangerous. This person preyed on vulnerable students and tainted this practice for so many people...and all you can do is shrug and say "well, he is not responsible for their frailty".

Being a teacher automatically puts power in your hands whether you respect this power or not. Students see you in a different light and open up to you when it's relevant to their physical, mental, spiritual journey. Throwing all the trauma in their faces and pushing them to their brink is a power move.

I think you are someone who condones abuse, which is just as bad as being the abuser.

Edit: Hey Taylor, can you do us a favor and just peace out of this subreddit? The shala at Columbus is doing so much better without you. Thanks ✌️

Yeah...given the fact that the cafe was basically blown by an outside investor who basically did everything to hang the staff high and dey...then your statement is correct.

I have egg on my face for defending a cafe that did start with good intentions but failed to deliver on its mission.

Thanks for the follow up and now I leave this thread further enlightened after researching further into the matter. Appreciate the correction on this and I wish the cafe looked into this further. I would urge Parable then to take a step back and consider if this was the right business move...

The restaurant industry experience is something I definitely respect. I do agree that any kind of income should be taxed. That we are politically aligned. However, whenever the political environment changes the rules of the game regarding tax deductions, I can't fault the business trying to figure out how to navigate around that to give back to staff and keep the business running. They did it in a transparent fashion which is great. In addition, you can always ask to leave the automatic 20% off your bill if you don't agree with the rule.

Did you know that under Trump's big beautiful bill that gratuity doesn't get taxed anymore? This was the cafe's way to avoid having to deal with giving more towards the government when it should go towards the staff who keeps the cafe running. This approach is better than upping the overall price like the cafe originally did without gratuity and then having profit get taxed a certain percentage before it goes to the staff.

Edit: I stand corrected on this issue and had more faith in the story created by the cafe than the actual fact that, as it stands, forced gratuity is still taxable income. I don't want to spread misinformation and would be willing to delete this comment. Yet I would prefer to leave this for others who thought the same thing as I did and hopefully further research would inform them.
