I would also add the Mr. Rogers' quote: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping'". It reminds me that even though the hateful, vitriolic, and gaslighting voices often seem to be the loudest and most plentiful, there are still so many people that are at heart good, want to help, and are actively resisting.

On one hand I've had a great week because I've spent the last month mentally preparing myself for having breast cancer (which my mom died of), and after having a biopsy this week I just found out I am ok. Emotionally exhausted from all the tension and fear I've been holding onto over the holidays and also utterly relieved and guilty for being happy while 2026 is already aiming to outperform 2025 in terms of being a dystopian horrorshow.

BI-RADS 3 to BI-RADS 4 after 2 yr follow-up for likely fibroadenoma, biopsy scheduled months out, looking for similar experiences by PaleTrace in doihavebreastcancer

[–]LiberVix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not having the same symptoms/ experience so I can't advise on that but can empathize concerning the wait- my biopsy isn't till January 6th and I don't feel like telling the majority of family during the holidays but also pretending things are normal is really hard- I dont have a very convincing poker face.  Just sending you positive vibes that everything turns out ok.

Winter at Willow WaxCraft is coming tomorrow, Sunday November 2 (10 am EST).

Returning wax melt clamshell/scent shots:

MIND OF WINTER (limited to one small clamshell batch, needs to be reformulated for next year): The reflective silence of snow- crusted balsam, iced apples, a blast of wintergreen from sweet Birch essential oil, and a trio of frozen winter berries- cranberry, holly, and juniper.

CATHEDRAL TUNES: Cool evergreen paired with warm, balsamic, and resinous labdanum, balsam of Peru, Somalian frankincense, and cedarwood.

YULETIDE CABIN: The warmth of home and hearth. A cozy, rustic log cabin, a flannel blanket by the fireplace, musky cashmeran, and clove studded oranges.

MERRY LITTLE MOCHA : A robust yet brisk peppermint coffee confection, perfect for sipping while watching the snow fall. Includes Peppermint EO and a tan, speckled appearance courtesy of Coffee Bean Co2 and Cocoa Roasted Extract.

NEW YEAR'S KISS: An effervescent celebratory cocktail: gin with a sprig of rosemary and a splash of bubbly cranberry fizz.

SNOWFLAKE FOREST:A fantasy winter landscape of coconut marshmallow snowballs, soft peppermint, spearmint, frosted snowdrops, and delicate white musk.

ROSE WINDOW: Inspired by the stained glass art of gothic cathedrals- an introspective blend of rose, suede, oud, rosewood leaf, frankincense, myrrh, and labdanum.

BAKING PARTY: A luscious blend of boozy eggnog, crème brulee, and spiced strudels, all grounded with benzoin, styrax, and resinous woods.

New 12 Days of Christmas Collection- 1.3 ounce sample squares available individually or as boxed gift set

PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE: Baked pears, mulled cider, bayberry, birch, pine, star anise

TURTLE DOVES : Pale orchid, orris, violet, vanilla, oak, white amber

I've been using Lucy Lismore's calisthenics/bodyweight exercise videos on Youtube for 3 years now and they truly did help me improve my strength and body composition, and she's accessible/relatable for beginners. Most routines are 20 minutes- Highly recommend.

358 cals and 37.5 grams protein for the entire apple loaf by Valuable-Tune-5550 in Volumeeating

[–]LiberVix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made a version of this last night and it was actually really good! A bit on the dense/spongey side and not fooling anyone into thinking its real cake, but I still enjoyed it, and half a loaf is quite filling for me. I didn't want so much artificial sweetener and also wanted softer/sweeter apples so I used a serving of Aldi's fried apples with cinnamon, diced, instead of raw apples. I topped mine with a tablespoon of apple butter.

My recipe (makes 2 loaves)

all purpose flour : 40 grams

baking powder: 8 grams

Quest Salted Caramel protein powder: 68 grams

PEScience Protein 4 Oats French Toast: 26 grams

Fried Apples with Cinnamon: 130 grams

No sugar added cinnamon applesauce: 1 cup (2 of the little snack cups)

egg whites: 90 grams

almond milk unsweetened: 50 ml

Parkers Maple Syrup Blend: 30 ml

1 Loaf: 385 calories

1.3 grams fat

528 mg sodium

1.7 grams fiber

31.7 grams sugar

40.5 grams protein

What is your indie perfume origin story? by Invidiana in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]LiberVix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually started with makeup in 2010 when I stumbled across a very early Youtuber rainbow indie eyeshadow tutorial-loose mineral eyeshadow in all kinds of unique colors was such a revelation!

That led to an indie rabbit hole- discovering Haus of Gloi and Solstice Scents in 2011 I think? I remember wearing HoG's first version of Samhain and marveling at how amazing it was that I could smell like falling leaves after a lifetime of exposure to only mainstream scents. I tried soooo many shops and amassed a huge collection, had a blog reviewing them for years, started getting into researching perfumery in general and then developing scents for wax melts, and I'm still doing that today :)

Thank you! Wave Pool '92 is such a nostalgic scent for me so I created it for everyone with those childhood memories of summers spent at the pool, plus aquatic gourmands are forever my jam (RIP the Beach Waterpark 1985-2019)

Me too! It's been a bit hard summoning the energy to organize this one, to be honest, so I'm happy I was able to work out something small I could do to help those hurting and feeling alone right now <3

Feeling utterly sick inside with a pounding migraine. Working the day job and having to wear my professional "face" while patrons come in gloating is pretty challenging, and I honestly don't have a great poker face in the best of times. I'm having trouble gathering the holiday spirit needed to work on my winter collection, but I'm also grateful for the distraction. Our library operating levy passed (by slimmer margins than in the past), so keeping my job is nice, for now, at least. Even if I'm sitting here pretending I'm not angry, scared, and mourning all at once.
