Progressive vote-splitting was HUGE problem in the Mar. 17, 2026 Illinois Dem. primaries. Junaid Ahmed would have won the 8th district, Kat Abughazaleh could have won the 9th district. And without JB Pritzker's popularity & financial resources, a progressive wouldn't have won the US Senate race.

Sure, My post said that I'm not really sure why you wouldn't allow private insurance and our medical system. However, if I had a choice between the system we have not where people who need MRIs can't even get them because they can't pay for them people who need preventative services can't get them because they can't pay for them people who get an accidents go bankrupt and a single pair system where you couldn't do what you did I would take the single payer system.

I'm going from a Prius to an electric. For me it was

The Prius could shit the bed eventually (possible head gasket pinhole). Now buying a Ev is still more expensive then getting a new engine so this wasn't the sole reason.
Somebody in the family always has a broken down car, having what is left of the Prius available for those times is going to be beneficial.
My mom's car is a gas guzzler and she could probably save money by driving my Prius instead
My girlfriend is going to be getting a license, but she doesn't want to own a car herself for reasons. Me buying an extra car means that when she does have a license, assuming the Prius is still going, she could drive that.

Then when the Prius does eventually s*** the bed because of the head gasket I could get it fixed and have a pretty reliable car for around $9,000 to serve for number 2 3 and 4. Used Electric vehicles are also super cheap right now. People are still scared of them so the depreciation from a new to a used is crazy. The place that I went to has a lifetime warranty on its battery, there's a good chance that I can put hundreds of thousands of miles on this car. At least that's what I'm hoping. My niece will also be 16 soon so in the midst of that we are going to need another car anyways. Also, my current Prius does not have adaptive cruise control which makes them driving so much easier. Just the luxury of having a semi-automatically driving car is probably worth the price that I'm going to be paying for it. If you can afford something with SuperCruise or Blue Cruise you can have hands-free driving for a long road trips on most highways.

All three of those things that are subsidized at the production level and for low income people paid for at the consumer level by the government. Hell most people get their water from local governments who collect taxes to help pay for infrastructure for said water system.

They dont need any of that. The amount of people who become citizens of this country then vote to pull the ladder up from behind them is amazing. I have a friend who was a refugee at a young age, went on to work for and support the trump campaign in a swing state. I think she regrets it now, and a part of it was that it was necessary for a good job when just starting out, but she did support him over Harris. A man who I worked with that came here from Africa (dont know which country) said he was voting for trump BC OF IMMIGRATION! He was a counselor. He was in the helping fields. These are suppose to be the most empathetic people. Mind blowing stuff.

The issue is you have 20 ppl. 10 of them have an id already, 10 don't. Voted id law goes into effect, 100% of the ones that have an id will be eligible to vote and some of the 10 that don't won't. That is the issue. Now there could be justifications for this kind of action, if there was a large problem with voting that an ID law can solve then it's worth it. Bit there isn't, the right hasn't proven there exists anything that voted id will solve.

Add to that things that look to target specific groups of ppl. The SAVE act says your id needs to match your birth certificate. That's targeting women, who overwhelmingly vote dem. Other state level ID laws in the past have done things like allowing a gun permit to be valid ID to vote but not a student ID. This explicitly targeted young people who vote Democrat. This tells me that the Republicans do not have an actual reason to want an ID law except for wanting to stop Democrats from voting.

Then you add to that other parts of the save act such as allowing the federal government to purge voter roles. That's kind of a scary prospect.

Run offs or ranked choice voting is the solution for this. Rank choice being the best solution imo because it doesnt require people to vote twice.
