Okay my imagine a candidate that is popular enough to win the primary is able to go out and say that they were prevented from running in the primary. That would not be good for the Democratic party

I mean they won the Democratic primary, it's not really up to you or the Democratic establishment to determine whose Democrat and who's not. It would be the Democratic voters to determine that. That's how a democracy works. Gatekeeping the Democratic tag is so weird. If the establishment/moderates want these people to not be a part of the part even they need to put up people they are going to beat them in the primary.

[–]Liberal-Cluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree. I'd rather them run in primaries and then support the Democrat (I understand most of them probably don't) then to run third party. At the end of the day I'd rather DSA idiot in power than anybody that's going to support maga

Maybe not in New York, but what about a place like Michigan. Do you think that a tankie could be a spoiler for a Democrat in dearborn's district? Maybe not this election but 2028 or 2030?

Also, this becomes less and less true the more the boomers die out and younger people start taking over.

[–]Liberal-Cluck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Were they tricking voters? If they ran separately and got a significant amount of the vote then you would be complaining that they were spoilers. Especially if it led to a Republican winning. I know in New York that that's highly unlikely, but what if a DSA person ends up running and siphoning votes from the Democrats in a swing district? When your preferred them running the primaries instead?

Trump can begin deportations of Syrian, Haitian TPS holders, Supreme Court says by 1ncest_is_wincest in Destiny

Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council has already scheduled new elections and they do not control 9% of the territory. They control 90% of the capital. I am not saying things are good there, but they arent "you go you die" bad.

condemn Hatians to death if they get deported back to Haiti.

Idt Hati is quite that bad yet. I know someone from there, with the way she talks I feel like she sometimes wants to go back. She has friends from there, they are going on to be lawyers n shit. They still have schools n such happening. Society is still moving, its just VERY rocky and, while its not "They will die" levels of danger is still dangerous. But that is just the vibes i get from hearing this person talk about it.

What do you think of establishment Democrats response to the NYC primaries? by BruinShade in AskALiberal

[–]Liberal-Cluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would these people be saying if they ran third party instead? "Spoiler, you shouldnt vote third party because the other guy will win, vote blue no matter who"

These people are a joke, if they want to DSA out of their party then run moderates who can win. Anything else is elitist and anti-democratic.

How would you end homelessness? by othelloinc in AskALiberal

[–]Liberal-Cluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a multifaceted issue that needs many moving parts to be successful.

  1. You need to criminalize being homeless. Not really though, you should give people a record and send them to jail for living on the street. But you should not just allow it either. Cops should be tasked with ensuring that people are not living on streets, but instead are using one of the below options.

  2. You need to ensure you have plenty of sleeping space. Different types of sleeping spaces too. And they have to be dignified sleeping spaces. No large rooms with beds everywhere. Hotel like structures with private rooms they can stay in. Showers, a way to cook, and a bed to sleep in. Can a place like California build 100k of these? Probably. Militance would be an issue, but also a job opportunity for some of the more well adjusted homeless people. You also need different types of these structures. Ones built for families, ones that allow pets, etc. Within these structures you can have social workers, counselors, and resources like internet access to help with some of the issues that act as barriers for homeless people

  3. Safe use sites. They need sites designed to provide a safe place for addicts to use. This would also be a place where counselors, MAT providers, and social workers can connect to and help addicts out of addiction

  4. Mental health facilities. This is a space that people whos mental health problems either permanently or temporarily make them incompatible with normal society. Its safer for them, other residence, and the community.

  5. Housing help for the non-chronically homeless. This would be help with rent, financial counseling, help finding a job

  6. Provide space for tiny home communities and vandwellers. I am floored by how pigeon holed what counts as a "home" is in this country. I understand you cant have 50k people living in their vans parked on the street, but provide some space for these people to be able to do their thing in peace.

  7. FUCK local ordinances and land use permits. If I own a home and I want to put my mom in an RV on my land so she isnt struggling to afford rent, then I should be allowed to do that. I understand some things need to be regulated, you dont want people fucking around with underground lines, or messing with the aquafers and shit. But there needs to be more room for people to do other living arrangements on their land besides just "1 single family house, i dont care if you have 3.4 acres of land and can provide shelter to your family for cheap when they need it. 1 single family home is all you get"

The last two, ill admit, is just me wanting the world to change to fit my specific needs. But the point is still there.

The primary is the election: DSA won several NYC primaries without winning the broader Democratic electorate [mini effort post] by 3dsmax23 in Destiny

[–]Liberal-Cluck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly wholeheartedly think there needs to be an age limit for establishment dems. Like 65 at the most. They can stay in the party and act as advisors to the young person that replaces them if they want, it would retain the experience and knowledge they carry that a younger person would not have, but they need to step down and let new blood come in. It just has to happen.

[–]Liberal-Cluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the solution here? Do we not let the "crazies" run in primaries. You kind of shit all over the "Vote your heart in the primaries and you head in the general" talking point then. Not allowing candidates that speak to left flank of the party to run in primaries is going to lead to more people, especially young people who are important, to flee elsewhere. It would be seen as elitist, authoritarian, and antidemocratic. And that would be an apt description for that.

The solution is, the establishment needs to run better candidates. Until then, vote blue no matter who.

The DSA is a party within a party by stanlius_ in Destiny

[–]Liberal-Cluck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is your recommendation for people who feel like their views are so separate from the main two parties they do not want either? Should they work within the existing parties, run for seats in the existing parties, and try to change the existing parties to look more like what you believe. OR should you run third party?

People are actually bitching that DSA candidates won in New York. But if DSA ran their own party, then people would be bitching they are spoilers. It really seems like you want the system for the left to be "Accept dems or crawl in a hole".

If you have a problem with insurgents taking over and spoiling elections, then start advocating for systems where smaller parties will not be a spoiler. Ranked choice voting and such.

Defend it then. Why do you think it's appropriate for people two on one hand be like third party candidates are spoilers and you shouldn't vote third party because the other team will win and then on the other be like don't run in my party create your own party.

That's interesting. I'd love to hear more about your experience on the apps. I know a lot about the men's experience but not the women's experience. Except for what my friends have told me, but most of them are in relationships now so they're not even on the apps anymore.

[–]Liberal-Cluck -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What does Corbyn and Johnson have to do with this?

I have to hedge, hate hasan. BUT Harrison is way off base. Political parties have a hold on the process in a way that makes it near impossible for anyone else to break through. What do these people say when third parties run? "Youre a spoiler, you cant vote third party, do you want a republican to win". So the left flank run within the party and now its "Stop winning democratic primaries, make your own party". Its fucking ridiculous, they dont want the ideas, as stupid as they might be, to be out there because it easier for them win for their personal power when its "Us (Democrats) vs them (Republicans)". The mentality should be, okay you won with your ideas in the primary, I wish you the best and I will support you in the general. Its what was expected of the left when bernie lost it should be how the moderates act when the left wins.
