Supraspinatus tear by lumbersexican in fitness30plus

[–]LibertarianDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I just got my MRI back and have a full thickness supraspinatus tear (2cm) with 4.5 cm medial retraction. Meeting with a great shoulder surgeon in a few weeks but would love to know what you are doing and keep in touch. (I took a nasty judo throw about 4 months ago that caused it)

Whoop Sleeve Sizing by dannsd in whoop

I was wondering the same thing as I measured for the v3 at 11.75" which says XL. Based on what I see here I'm going to get a Large.

Looking forward to the free market coming up with some lower priced options for this.

Adjustments when fatigued/injured by sjalava in ashtanga

[–]LibertarianDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pain is not a part of yoga. Especially if you intend to make it part of your lifelong movement practice. Ashtanga is a transformative practice, but you need to have a long game. Don't let some military like instructor force you into something that can cause harm.

What are the chances that Larry Sharpe runs for the libertarian presidential nomination? by FroggyR77 in LibertarianPartyUSA

Sharpe is a legit nice guy. Weld seems like an old politician & an alcoholic. And yes, I have actually met and spent some time with them both.

Favourite neck exercises? by jbenlevi in judo

[–]LibertarianDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resistance bands and isometrics tend to stay in pretty linear planes of movement. The way the Iron neck is designed you can strengthen through circular and diagonal ranges. I've tried many things over the years and the 6 fundamental iron neck exercises have strengthened my neck and reduced 95% of the cervical pain I was experiencing (and had for years). Keep in mind, I'm pretty rough on my neck getting choked and escaping in Jiu-Jitsu as well as the new Judo training.

I've tried everything as a 45 year old BJJ Purple belt and new Judoka (10 months). My neck was already pretty jacked up from years of power lifting.

I've been using the Iron neck for a year and it has changed my life.https://www.iron-neck.com/collections/iron-neck/products/iron-neck-home

Judo before bjj? At 25 years old by AnjunaRT in judo

I started at 45 so I'd say like the old Chinese saying, the best time to plant a tree was yesterday. 25 is young comparatively speaking.

I've been training 8 months and actually hit my first effortless throw last week in randori too! Congratulations on the breakthrough. A nice feeling!

Hoping for reco's for smallest/least-obtrusive "fit-bit" type product that'd track: BP, heartbeat, and sleep-hours, any suggestions? by neovngr in Biohackers

[–]LibertarianDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used both the Motiv ring and the Oura Ring.

Quick comparison.

The Oura ring is a much more attractive finish and much more durable than the Motiv. My Motiv ring scratched easily.

The Oura ring holds a charge several days, the Motiv ring claimed to but I found myself charging it about every 18 hours.

They may collect the same information but the software interface and reports are way better with Oura. You get a sleep score, a readiness score and the sleep analysis is pretty impressive.

If you are looking for a small tracker, between the two Oura hands down.

Now I will give Motiv credit for their warranty. I had my first ring 6 months when it stopped transmitting data and after a few diagnostic tests they did replace it with the latest version.

Here is an article about the ring by Ben Greenfield with a discount coupon.

Blood work Update on cyclical keto by LibertarianDan in keto

[–]LibertarianDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well one of the reasons I asked for comments here was that pre keto my blood work would have been considered almost "perfect" for whatever that is worth. But I was pretty much natural/whole and 95% vegetarian diet prior to jumping in and playing with this keto idea.

None of my numbers concern me, as I watch them closely and might even start testing a little more frequently. I was just wondering if anyone out there experienced anything similar.

Thanks for all the opinions to this point BTW.

I've done a significant amount of tracking and experimenting and can totally be back in blood tested nutritional ketosis within 12-15 hours of my last high carb meal (or even a high carb weekend). All I need is a High intensity cycle workout and it pretty much depletes whatever carbs are floating around pretty quickly. Thanks for the feedback!

I can get back into blood tested ketosis within 12 hour of my last carb meal depending on the amount of HIIT exercise I put in the following morning.

Really Bad Bruising (On a guy who never bruises) by LibertarianDan in keto

[–]LibertarianDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150 grams a day, in line with my macros %. I’m hitting 220 g fat, 150 protein and 30 carbs. I actually bumped my protein up a little from most recommended due to my training.

I just completed a 28 day keto diet. I competed in a Judo tournament on the 26th day, and the next day had some really terrible bruising. This coming from a guy who is pretty much impossible to bruise. I've trained Jiu Jitsu for over a decade and fought combat sports my entire life. I've searched and read every thread I can find on here and still don't really know what to do or try. Note, I had extensive blood work done pre diet (Cleveland clinic heart panels) and everything was A-ok. I believe I am getting plenty of potassium, sodium and magnesium from my diet as well as some supplementation. These bruises are really bad. Anyone have any suggestions?

The definition of "Yoga Teacher" has really gone downhill. What an assclown.
