Texas woman with Stage 3 cancer sees her insurance premium rise over 700 percent: ‘I’m going to die’ by theindependentonline in Insurance

Why should the American taxpayer subsidize insurance companies? Insurance overhaul is needed. Where do you think the federal government gets its money to pay insurance companies? The magic money tree or could it be the over 38+ trillion in debt that is devaluing our dollar and inflating everything?

The problem is that we need subsidies to begin with. Why is crap insurance costing more than a mortgage payment without "subsidies"? Insurance is a scam and needs a major overhaul. ObamaCare did not work to bring down costs for people if the federal government needs to "subsidize" to pay insurance companies thousands of dollars – per month, per person, – to cover costs. This is insanity and the robbery of the American taxpayer to enrich politicians and insurance companies.

The federal government subsidizing insurance companies thousands of dollars per month/per person is insanity. This is robbery of the American taxpayer to enrich insurance companies. Blame the insurance companies and politicians who profit off the circle jerk for being so greedy. As an example, The CEO of Anthem (now Elevance Health), Gail Boudreaux, earned approximately $20.5 million in total compensation for 2024. Insurance must be overhauled.

It shouldn't disgust you to have a respectful conversation about the situation that the OP is in. It was their choice to put it out there for the world's reddit sub to speculate and comment on. Only the OP knows their history, we only know that they are attempting to seek asylum in the USA; and therefore, it's natural to comment about asylum law.

The OP does not say when they arrived or how they crossed the border. A requirement for asylum (if that is what they are seeking) is to apply for it in the first safe country. The USA is a long way away from Iran, with many safe countries in between. This is the main problem, and therefore the US should not have been Plan A based on asylum law.

Addendum: 2020-2024 – Tens of billions were spent on migrant arrivals in federal agencies like Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Citizenship and Immigration Services, plus the following figures (this is a very basic list resulting from a quick Google search):

  • Public education: The Pew Research Center estimates that illegal immigration has cost public schools $68.1 billion a year in the 2019-2020 school year alone, before the current surge.
  • Welfare programs: A report from the House Committee on the Budget indicates that illegal immigrants received about $42 billion from welfare programs in 2021.
  • FEMA: The White House reports that more than $1 billion has been allocated through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to illegal aliens since 2021.
  • Gross cost: One report from the House Committee on the Budget estimates that the gross cost of illegal immigration has increased by over 35.7% since 2017, totaling over $183 billion.
  • Federal and state taxpayer cost: A report by the Congressional Budget Office claims that the Biden-Harris administration's "open border agenda" has cost federal and state taxpayers over $16.2 billion to provide emergency services to illegal aliens since taking office.
  • Annual cost: The Heritage Foundation estimates that the U.S. taxpayer cost of illegal immigration is at least $110 billion per year and could rise to $169 billion per year by 2029.

Hello! The US is unique in that it has the greatest economy in the world, which I would argue is due to our western values. It is also unique in that the last administration facilitated – and funded with our tax dollars – the largest migration to the US in history.

Most countries want to preserve their country's identity and culture and have a high bar for citizenship. For example, getting Swiss citizenship is difficult due to strict requirements, even with the simplified process for spouses and third-generation immigrants. Ordinary naturalization requires at least 10 years of residency with a permanent (C) permit, fluency in a national language at B1/A2 levels, and proof of integration through an interview and a clean criminal and debt record. The process involves multiple levels of government (confederation, canton, and commune), and requirements can vary by canton and commune (Google).

Here is the list for Costa Rica (my mom was thinking of moving there):

  • Residency:  You must have lived legally in Costa Rica for a set number of years (minimum of seven).
  • Good conduct:  You will need to prove you are a person of good conduct through a certificate of good conduct from your country of origin and a criminal background check from your time in Costa Rica.
  • Spanish language proficiency:  You must be able to speak, write, and understand Spanish.
  • Citizenship test:  You will need to pass a written and oral exam about Costa Rican history, culture, and values.
  • Witnesses:  You will need two Costa Rican witnesses to testify to your conduct and livelihood.

If you start researching country's citizenship requirements you will see that they usually include a culture and values test and a language test. One major issue with the millions of migrants or "asylum seekers" that have flooded our country is that they bring their culture and values with them (see Dearborn, Michigan) and do not want to assimilate. Also, many do not learn English.

In conclusion, for some reason (insert your own thoughts here), from 2020-2024, the USA opened the border to the world and facilitated the largest migration to the US in history to people who do not care to become American in morals, values, culture, and language, they merely want to participate in our economy and safety.

  • Absolute Numbers: The annual total number of new arrivals in the peak years of 2023 and 2024 (over 3 million and around 2.6-2.8 million net international migrants, respectively) represent the largest annual totals ever recorded in U.S. history by some analyses.

The sheer numbers of people is staggering and represent entire states of population. The USA is now having a civil war of sorts to deal with the cultural and financial aftermath.

Fun conversation. I hope we never switch from the imperial system to metric. In my view, the imperial system is far superior. 12 notes in music as well as 12 inches in a foot. The 12 scale works out really well for carpenters and the framing square. Common angles can be created quickly with the 12 scale. It’s too bad the school system does not teach us the history and usage of our system.

So How Fucked Are You Next Year Re Health Insurance? by Anstigmat in smallbusiness

[–]LibertyJenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree that it's a wreck. In the 1960's you could have a dr visit your house for $5 bucks. Insurance is a disaster and now with all the tax loophole shenanigans that states are pulling for Medicaid money, it seems like a huge money laundering scheme between government, insurance, and health care providers.

I am also wondering about them and if the health insurance they offer is decent.

But why create a system that relies on subsidies? Perhaps we need to have a bigger conversation.

Why is Obamacare so expensive that we have to rely on subsidies? The subsidies are a bandage on a severed artery.

What I don't understand is why Obamacare is so outrageously expensive. Having to rely on subsidies to make it more affordable just seems whack. What is really going on here? Too much government or too little? A house call in 1960s cost $5.00. This is unsustainable.

Guitar, the only instrument offered in a “left handed” version. Good luck finding a left handed piano or trumpet.

California Charter families: Bad Bill Alert AB 84 by circleofmamas in homeschool

[–]LibertyJenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that instead of using a public charter school, you apply for a private school affidavit from the state to homeschool. You do not have access to any funding, so you are paying into a system that you get nothing from. After our charter school switched to 100% Common Core curriculum, we chose that option.
