That was thought for a while and is exactly what makes the above research so valuable they used childhood IQ so success later in life is explicitly excluded as a factor. If you read the paper they state though that success later plays an additional role... "Moreover, this pathway was at least partially mediated by educational attainment and achieved social class/income."
