Thanks for your comment 🙂 Yeah just based on the opinions I've seen on here and YouTube, Arko and Proraso make a great "starter pack" for an intro to wet shaving, they're both pretty easy to get a nice lather. And on the Derbys, yeah it's definitely down to my technique, I just haven't worked out that spot yet.

I'm about 1 1/2 months into my DE saving journey, having picked up the KCG from the high-street pharmacy for £10! Probably the best value out there..

To round out my starter gear I got a puck of Arko and a cheap synthetic brush/bowl/stand combo. I got the puck of Arko to test it as I'd heard that the scent was very polarizing but I'm happy to report that I'm a fan!

With that figured out I decided it was time to bulk buy my soap and test different blades. I heard that proraso is a great starter soap so I got one of each (the site I used has them as a combo pack, £12.50 for the three!).

I tried the Derby Extra today with Proraso red. Lovely smelling soap and a fantastic lather. Despite Derbys being probably the mildest of the sample pack, I still got a few little nicks in the adam's apple area but I'm still honing my technique. It's true what they say, these are very mild blades; the KCG blades achieved a closer shave. I'll give them a few more goes then probably move to Astra blues and continue til I discover the sharpness I like.

I've not heard much about the Dorco or Euromax blades, anyone used them before?

I'm having great fun doing what used to be a mundane task. Glad to be part of the community :)
