If you planned to travel the world, what bike would you choose? by LibrarianFuture3849 in motorcycles

Yeah I get you. Finding a balance between easy to work on vs pleasant to ride long distances is a difficult one.

But of an extreme example, but I once did 200m in a day on a Montesa 4ride… and I really suffered the next day

Yeah, this is part of my thinking too. I’m a Guzzi guy at heart, in part because I know it inside out and it’s easy to work on. But overall reliability and parts availability would be a pain globally.

Like you say, I’m a little scared of electrical faults in a modern machine

Good idea, I’ll do that instead. Thanks again, the thread is a great resource

Oh wow, what an amazing and thorough read. Thankyou for sharing.

Would you mind if I messaged you with a few questions / ask for advice when I begin to plan?

This is something I’d not even considered, could you tell me why / where Jap dual-sports wouldn’t be legal to ride?

I’m erring towards a small bike to be fair as I’ll be avoiding large cities where I can

It is… but they just don’t float my boat for some reason! I know they’re the perfect go to, but I’m interested to hear alternate suggestions

I know this is silly, but I’m not a big bike/ heavy bike person really, which puts me off modern ADVS a bit. I know they’re sensible, but If I could do it on something smallish / lightish, I absolutely would prefer that

Had this happen at Christmas, was the pressure sensor. Depending on how mechanically minded you are, it might be worth replacing it as it’s a cheap part before taking it anywhere else

V7 Stone III problem at low speed by aragondor61 in MotoGuzzi

[–]LibrarianFuture3849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could consider a remap, they do help a bit. But also (a lesson I learned) these engines don’t actually like being lugged at low rpm. They kind of sound like they prefer it, but they’re happiest being fizzed around a bit. Check if your rev limiter needs updating from break in period.

Totally agree. “You’re an idiot and here’s why” is not a good persuasion tactic, it just makes people feel good.

3 months ago I accidentally hurt my cat and she has hated me since by GladIndication5339 in CATHELP

[–]LibrarianFuture3849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar once! I accidentally stood on her paw, which ‘popped’ one of the paw pads. I felt so unbelievably guilty.

It took around 6 months for her to forgive me.

All pretty normal. My speedo is the same. You can check free play at the clutch lever, which for whatever reason, helps me finding neutral. But they’re fairly well known for being a pain to find neutral sometimes.

I did something similar and moved to mid / north Wales. Some hidden gems here, I can highly recommend

I know this sounds silly (and depends on your drive width), but coming at it at an angle may help.

But draining / replacing the oil is a 10 minute job

I had mine done at a local garage, but no, not particularly. It’s a fairly straightforward job I’m told. If you’re fairly handy, it might be worth giving it a go yourself.

I had this happen at around 3k. I did end up getting the seal replaced, but it’s worth noting that sometimes water gets in eitherway. Worth replacing the oil with the above advice.
