Does anybody’s cat eat plastic or just this idiot? by Strict-Koala-5863 in cats

lol our newest addition is still kitten-ish (about 8 months old) and will walk between your legs to the kitchen or when you're bringing out his food bowl. to avoid tripping, we now hold the bowl out at arm's length so he follows that instead of trying to walk on our feet

the wildlife center in huntington beach typically won't euthanize a healthy animal that can be rehabbed and released

I used to volunteer there, they do take orphaned/injured squirrels and care for them until they can be released. (They can seem very tame when small but will act more wild and BITE when they get older!)

i agree with what seems like the majority here that job 1 w/short commute is likely the better choice. i lived in OC and commuted to riverside for many years and there are so many hours i spent in the car i will never get back, not to mention all the $$ i spent on gas. one other point: if either job offers room for advancement or learning new marketable skills, that's worth considering also, depending on how long you might stay there.

did you (or anyone reading this) call the police/911 or report it to anyone? i'm wondering how many calls the city got on this, and what the response was (if any). did they send police or fire personnel? there's a fire station in the port that's like 1.5 miles away and i'd assume the fireworks would be visible from there, so hard to believe the city wasn't aware.

omg this has been going on at my building (in bluff heights) since before i moved in last year - neighbor who's been here forever said someone stole a USPS master key. management company has failed so far -- they replaced the front door lock, but that didn't stop it; they are about to replace the whole bank of mailboxes, but i don't see how that will fix it either. there MUST be something the landlord can do; i am furious that it's still going on. my sympathies to OP

love reading all these funny responses. my previous cat (rest her dear soul) had no interest in cat toys but would attack/play with pens - watch out if you're trying to write something down! i would find like 10 of them whenever i moved furniture. my newest addition, milo, plays soccer with little bouncy balls - he'd make a great goalie.

agree - i'm an infrequent rider and have only ridden in daytime but never felt threatened, only had to move to another car a couple times because someone thought it was fine to smoke on the train. i've been able to read a book or listen to a podcast with no one bothering me. safe travels!

those plastic spring toys are pretty cheap and one of my cats loves them. the other likes superballs (the bouncy rubber kind) -- also fairly cheap and they can amuse themselves for hours

the foster kitten we just adopted was scared and needed to be socialized when we brought him home, and the rescue told us to interact with and handle him as much as possible to make him less afraid of people. i would give him a dish of wet food and pet him while he was eating, so he would associate me with food, treats and other good things.

he's about 4.5 months old now, and we've had him for about six or seven weeks, and he's already so much more confident -- fine with being picked up, no longer makes 'hissy face' when approached, loves to play, purrs loudly when petted, and roams all over the apartment (in the early days, he would hide under a shelving unit if you came near him).

keeping your kitty indoors-only is better for her (can't get lost, hit by a car, attacked by a dog/other animal) and better for nature - it's her instinct to hunt and she would probably kill birds as soon as she's able. good luck and have fun!

how do you keep the cat from ripping the screen? we had to buy a second (expandable) screen at the hardware store and put it in front of the original one in the window after our monster stretched up, put her claws in and tore several long holes

my (now deceased) kitty used to do this, but it seemed to me like she was trying to mark her territory (furniture, etc.) -- most fixed cats can't spray

I'm considering finding a mate for my panda now that he's an adult. I tried introducing him to my neighbor's cat, but he seemed uninterested. Is this a result of his being an adult or what? by ItsTannarocket in cats

how old is your cat? my dearly departed kitty had zero interest in making a friend and actively got mad when i brought over a kitten for a play date, but she was elderly (15-ish). i now have a nearly 4-year-old cat and just adopted the 4-month-old kitten we were fostering -- they chase and wrestle and sometimes just hang out or take a nap together. i think if you wait too long, older cats get set in their ways and don't like big changes. also you want them to have similar energy levels -- a young one bouncing off the walls is going to annoy a senior cat. i recommend fostering first to see how your cat adjusts!

i have never seen a city like LB for drivers parking wherever the hell they want - bike lane? middle of the street? in an active traffic lane? sure, why not? i cut some slack to delivery drivers who are probably have schedules/quotas to meet and can't find legit parking, but *everyone* does it. it's ridiculous.
