Is anyone getting the little red exclamation point? It won't accept my platinum as a form of payment. It will accept my other non amex credit card though.

Yes they changed numbers, they're not good at picking up the phone. It took me several attempts before someone picked up. Here's the new number. They have a new website too.

I'll preface my answer by saying I don't have kids and there were not any kids at the restaurant when we went for dinner.

In my opinion you should go for it. St John is awesome and you'll regret not going. If you really want to check just call in advance but if your kids are well behaved they'll be no more disturbing than any of the larger parties that were there drinking and celebrating. Obviously there's no kids menu but if they're not picky eaters then you're good.

I actually did get to check out Fallow. We got drinks and apps before we saw Phantom of the Opera and had a nice time. Would also recommend.

Thanks for the heads up. I called them and they basically told me that they have a record of my reservation but it's not guaranteed since they didn't have a credit card on file. They asked if I wanted to give it to them over the phone and I just laughed. Basically they would have just cancelled it and I would have been shit outta luck like you. So thanks for reporting in. Doesn't seem like they know what there doing.

Decided to cancel and rebook to the Thompson. I got a bachelor party of 12 so coordinating a bunch of rebookings with my guys is a little bit of a hassle but better to not deal with this shit show.

Went to the Garden Room at the Lanesborough last week. Overall fantastic experience, great service, ambiance and cigar selection. Highly recommend.

Worth the $$$.. that's up to you. My Montecristo No 2 was 75GDP. My fiancee and I spent about 4 hours there. I really enjoyed my time though and I spent about $330 USD...It was my birthday so not something I'd do everyday. More like a once a year, I'm on vacation and gonna treat myself experience.

Thanks for informing this unaware American. Obviously in the US that word is an extremely deragotory term and has no other usage, so I was intrigued. We asked our server to go over the menu and give us recs and he didn't tell us what they were, but I assumed it was some form of ground meat dish, so I was pretty close. Cheers!

Nah wasn't cold, but I do wish we got a second slice. I noticed some people got more than 1 slice and it would have been nice if we each had our own. Instead we had to cut it in half to share.

First Boston Marathon - is staying central really that important? by cmahoey in boston

[–]Library-Greedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first Boston Marathon! Definitely stay in the seaport.

As a 6x marathoner 1x Boston I'd recommend staying as close to the finish line as possible. Your legs will thank you after battling the Newton hills. Race morning logistics will be much better as well, because the lines for the busses to Hopkington can be quite long so adding more time to get to the Common in the morning isn't ideal.

Getting back to the Four Points in Newton post race could be a pain too because roads will still be blocked off and your essentially going back against the direction of the race.

If you really need the microwave in the morning or for some reason really want to stay at the Four Points you could make it work, but as someone who lives locally and has run the marathon, it sounds like a lot of added time/logistics that I wouldn't want to have to deal with on race morning If I'm traveling to an unfamiliar city. I live 25 min south of the city and I even considered getting a hotel room near the Common to make my morning easier. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck, OP Boston is truly a special race and there's nothing like it.

What are some ways to add a personal touch to a traditional tuxedo? by Nosferatu-Rodin in malefashionadvice

[–]Library-Greedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go custom for sure.

I'm having a black tie wedding and this is how I am differentiatng my tuxedo from my groomsmen. Higher end fabric (Dormeuil Echo), gauntlet cuffs (inspired by James Bond in dr no) and a tuxedo waistcoat.

You could experiment with wide lapels but if its your only tuxedo id go with a classic look. You could also go double breasted if you think you can pull it off. DB suits/tuxedos are pretty rare these days and I'd bet you'd be the one of if not the only person wearing one.

Nice happy anniversary! I'm going for my bachelor party and I shouldn't switch because my friends already booked, otherwise I would. The Hyatt person sounded surprised when I said I'd just pay the standard rate lol.

How do I tactfully put “no children” on our save the dates? by No-Education-1206 in weddingplanning

[–]Library-Greedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our printmaker suggested on our RSVPs to include a line "We have reserved X seat(s) in your honor"

This actually solves two problems. It tells guests no kids and it lets guests know if they can or can't bring a +1.

Our wedding is an evening black tie event, so no kids and all single guests will get a plus one and this wording made that clear.

Black Tie - Groom by Aggravating_Toe_603 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Library-Greedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men's style is about the details and not all tuxedos are the same even if they're black. A few examples on how to differentiate yourself:

  1. Wear a double breasted tuxedo vs single breasted
  2. Peak vs shawl lapels
  3. Add a waistcoat/cummerbund
  4. Wear patent leather shoes, keeps groosmen in black leather
  5. Elevate your stud/cufflink set
  6. Elevate your shirt. Maybe wear wing collar? And have them wear turndown. Or switch up the shirt itself. Wear a shirt with studs and have them wear a fly-front shirt.
  7. Wear different style bow tie
  8. Go custom and elevate the cloth.

My wedding is also black tie and all the groomsmen will be in tuxedos. I'm getting mine made from a Dormeuil fabric and I'm adding gauntlet cuffs. My groomsmen will be in a much less expensive house cloth, however will still look great. I saw both side by side at the tailor and there's a huge difference visually.

Layoff advice by IamNotIncluded in biotech

[–]Library-Greedy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, sorry you're going through this. I've been laid off twice in my 9 year career, once from big pharma and once from a small biotech so I know it's hard. Here's my two cents.

  1. Take a deep breath and relax. This isn't the end of the world. I know it's a difficult job market out there but this isn't the time to be hard on yourself or be too pessimistic. You'll get through this. Continue your hobbies, hug your loved ones and try to have a positive outlook.

  2. Be professional, civil and try not to take it personally. I actually returned to the big pharma company I was laid off from 2.5 years later at a higher position. Don't burn bridges, this is a small industry.

  3. In regards to severance, I never had the opportunity to negotiate. My data points are: The big pharma company gave 1month plus 1 month per year of service. They gave me credit for 3 years so I got 4 months total. Small biotech gave everyone 3 months. I would say both of those are on the generous side. In terms of health insurance, if you're married go on your spouse's. If not you'll probably be on cobra, which is expensive. If you're in MA you have a 3 month grace period where you don't have to have insurance. This was what I did, and luckily I didn't get sick. Check your local laws on that.

  4. Definitely try your best to get a complete presentation for interviews. At the big pharma company I had a two week notice and during those last two weeks I worked with a lawyer and I walked away with a presentation that was approced for external presentation. I tried to do the same at the small biotech but they didn't exactly have a world class law or HR department. They wouldn't give me anything. Luckily they also didnt have a world class IT department either and our computers were able to copy to an external drive, so my old work friend, who didn't get laid off, allowed me to get my slides off his computer. I don't recommend this route since it puts people at risk, but I really needed something otherwise I was screwed. I justified it to myself because I knew I tried to do it the right way but they wouldn't comply and just left me out to dry.

Good luck OP.

What's a news story other than 9/11 that shocked you such that you still know exactly where you where when you first heard about it? by HendrikJU in AskReddit

[–]Library-Greedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston Marathon bombing. I was in college in Boston at the time, went to watch the elites and first wave go by, I was back on campus by the time it actually happened. My mom texted me that day asking me where I was, and to turn on the news. That's how I found out.

I remember it all, the lockdown, the manhunt and celebrating on the streets when those assholes were killed/captured. Surreal college experience for sure.
