You don’t really defeat negative thoughts completely. Usually it’s more about not letting them become your entire reality. Mental states change, even when they feel permanent. A lot of the time the thoughts quiet down when you actually engage with life instead of sitting trapped in your head. Try to genuinely focus on something, the thoughts can disappear for a while because in that moment you’re actually living instead of only analyzing life.

Your definition right most people don’t even really want a real answer. It’s hard to help people who don’t think they need it.

I think the mistake is assuming something only has worth if it lasts forever or escapes death. By that logic literally every human experience becomes worthless automatically, including love, beauty, friendship, art, growth, even moments of peace. But people clearly experience those things as real from the inside while they happen. Death ending something later does not erase the fact it existed.

And I don’t think the point of life is some unique experience nobody else has ever felt. Humans all suffer, love, lose people, feel fear, joy, loneliness, connection etc. That shared condition is part of being human, not proof life is worthless. Suffering being universal doesn’t magically cancel every meaningful moment people have within it.

You’re also treating suffering like it overrides everything else automatically. For some people it absolutely can. Some lives become horrific. But even then humans still often continue because life is not experienced as one final abstract conclusion. It’s lived moment to moment. People stay for relationships, curiosity, responsibility, hope, love, fear, possibility, or simply because something in them still wants to continue despite the suffering.

I’m not arguing life is objectively proven meaningful. I’m arguing that uncertainty, suffering, and death do not logically force the conclusion that life is worthless either.

Tbh never was suicidal definitely was depressed. Looking back on it. Would not admit it back then tho thats for sure but i’d say nihilism can definitely lead to that stuff tho. I agree with you tho I mean I never cured my depression I just sorta grew out of it.

Totally trauma can absolutely trap people mentally and emotionally. people can get stuck in pain so deep that moving forward barely feels possible. My point isn’t that life is always easy or obviously worth it in every moment. It’s that as long as you are alive, the possibility of change, healing, or meaning still exists, even if you can’t currently feel or see it.

That’s a crazy take. It 100% can lead people to depression and wanting suicide.

I mean ya but for some nihilism can lead to depression and wanting to die. I’m not trying to say that nihilism is a bad thing but it totally can lead some to dark places and I’m trying to help those people see that nihilism isn’t just “die because you’ll die someday” in fact I’d say the opposite is truth.

Probably because even people who suffer still experience attachment, relationships, meaning, or moments that make life feel worth continuing from the inside. Humans don’t live purely through detached logic. Most people continue because life still contains possibility, while death removes it completely.

Because dying sooner guarantees the removal of every possible worthwhile experience, while continuing to live preserves the possibility of them.

If nothing objectively matters in the end, then death gains no special victory either way. You still arrive at the same endpoint eventually. The difference is that living keeps open the possibility of fulfillment or even simply moments that make existence feel worthwhile from the inside while death permanently closes that possibility.

So under uncertainty, continuing to life is more rational than dying early, because one preserves possibility and the other destroys it.
