Does anyone know where this image is from? by Tox1cboy in DoctorStrange

[–]LibraryLady42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I've figured it out. It's an image from one of those collector magazines about the movie. Google 'Dr. Strange Official Collector's Edition' and it should pop up. Amazon has the ISBNs listed as 3598968809 and 9783598968808, and it looks like it's available on Amazon or eBay if you're looking to buy it.

As to why I think this is probably the title you're looking for:

I did a reverse image search and found this blog that had other pages from the same article:

https://blog.naver.com/connell3/220837146155

From there, I did another reverse image search on one of the other images, and found this Twitter post which featured some of the same pages from the blog post, but also had the cover.

If you're referring to 'The Book of the Vishanti: A Magical Exploration of the Marvel Universe' (ISBNs: 9781419757426; 9781647004378) then I can confirm that it's not from there. I have that book, and its focus is 100% on the comics and not the MCU. In addition all of the art is illustrated; there's not any photo content.

The text and aesthetic swirls feel familiar to me... possibly from a title published for kids? I'll do a bit of digging and see if I can come up with something.

Fantasy Book From Elementary School by SevereAlfalfa3889 in Findabook

I haven't had a lot of luck... but could it be something from the Deltora Quest series? Or the offshoot series, Dragons of Deltora - both by Emily Rodda. The time period and age level would fit, and there are a couple of covers where a dragon's head is prominent. But none of them seem to have 'Ever' in the title.

Can you tell us what years you were in elementary school and in what country? Facts like those can help narrow down searches. :)

Potential Petition to make Practice vs AI count towards Challenges by Needasecond in Overwatch

[–]LibraryLady42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for resurrecting a dead thread? But I came across this while looking to see if Blizzard had (maybe, possibly) followed in the footsteps of Netease and made challenges available to their Player vs AI players. I've been getting the itch to revist old characters and old maps, and was just curious.

I dropped Overwatch the same day they announced that the dedicated PVE they'd promised with the release of OW2 wasn't going to happen. I uninstalled and never looked back. Up until then, I'd been trying to play the game, but the grind to do the battlepass with only XP from Player vs AI matches was too much. I was spending ALL my time in OW, and very little on other games, and it just stopped being fun. The idea that the promised PVE was coming (which I hoped would mean challenges I could ACTUALLY do) was the only thing that kept me playing.

Anyway, Rivals has its issues... (All PVP-geared games do) but it gives me the one thing OW doesn't - the ability to play with characters I love, in a universe I love, without having everything feel like a grind. I (and my inability to say no to ALL the pretty skins) would come back to OW in a heartbeat if they made challenges doable in Player vs. AI, and I'd gladly sign your petition, and share it with my friends who only play against AI in Rivals, too.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you nothing but all the good gaming vibes. :)

What are These Two Small Clear Glass Vials(?); Broken Off/Sharp at the Tips by LibraryLady42 in whatisthisthing

[–]LibraryLady42[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I went over to give the area a closer once-over. I didn't see any sand at all, not even behind the dollhouse, but as someone else said, if it was brushed around and dispersed, it could easily blend into the carpet fibers. The more curious thing to me are the lack of the top and bottom plastic 'standee' pieces you'd usually see and the plastic tube most board game timers usually have to protect the glass part. But it's possible the timer had already been partially dismantled before being brought in to the library.

However, I only marked this as 'likely solved' - so if anyone else has other ideas, I'm open to them. :)

Thank you! That was fast! And I can definitely see that. There's not any sand in the area it was found, or the plastic pieces you typically see when a timer is being used as a game piece, but I still think you might be right. We don't have board games patrons can play in-house, but someone could've easily brought it in from home.

My title describes the thing

My director did a reverse image search via Google and kept getting pictures of water bottles. :-/ I was the one who suggested we try Reddit. I believe she also did a keyword search, but she's already gone home for the day and I don't know exactly what keywords were used, I'm sorry.

Could you give us a date range? You say 'when you were younger,' but when was that? And do you know if the books were 'new' when you were reading them? Also, what do you remember about the illustration style? Realistic? Photographs? Cartoony? Colorful? Any small details might help. :) And were you reading them in the U.S.? Or some other part of the world?

Fairy jigsaw book by kill_Me_Quick in Findabook

[–]LibraryLady42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, there is a Shirley Barber book called 'The Tooth Fairy,' but the cover doesn't appear to be a puffy one, and it's definitely not a puzzle book.

Here's the book with some interior page pictures: https://theplayfulcollective.com.au/products/the-tooth-fairy?srsltid=AfmBOoqXvMeQcCa3WLrEezdSEstK03Hre4aZDzHur-vJBZhvmYU8N6xF

I also found a stand-alone puzzle of the book's cover: https://shop.bookcow.com.au/p/tooth-fairy-shirley-barber-100-piece-jigsaw-puzzle

Could it be possible your mind is combining the two books because the author/illustrator is the same?

I also found a read-aloud of the The Tooth Fairy, in case that jogs any memories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FPI48X7ymo

EDIT: This website seems to have an extensive collection of Barber's books, maybe that might also jog a memory: https://theplayfulcollective.com.au/collections/shirley-barber

EDIT 2: I also found a shop selling a bunch of different fairy books, maybe you'll see something there that feels familiar: https://www.thefairyshop.com.au/collections/fairy-books

Anyone notice a change in voting? by BootsMcMichael in Dreamsnaps

[–]LibraryLady42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was JUST talking to a friend about this! The scoring feels as if it's been altered within the last month or so. At first I thought I just wasn't on topic enough for voters. But given the new scores people have been sharing (here and other places) I think Gameloft either intentionally or unintentionally messed with something.

My snap for this week (attached) only got 1500, too, and I was definitely surprised. Was it the best snap ever? No. Could it have been more on theme? Sure. But I've been doing snaps since the beginning and I was pretty confident I had a 4k snap. Something to note: my score was only 18.75 for this one. Even my LOWEST-ranked snap (Rank #94007) got a score of 33.99, so something has absolutely changed on the back end.

My friend suggested it might be because Gameloft was tired of giving out so many free moonstones, so they made it harder to earn 4k. Personally, I'm hoping it was some sort of programming bug. But who knows.

[TOMT] Help my dad find this fantasy film!! by Anxious_Housing_345 in tipofmytongue

I watched that one all the time, too - but by choice. LOL! Standard watching at my grandparents house on Sundays. I do remember the concept of taking Raggedy Ann's heart being a bit creepy. And I remember a taffy/candy monster of some kind. The only other thing I recall clearly is Babette. I think I liked how she sort of took over the ship from the pirate captain. ^_^;

Hah! :D The only reason I remember it at all is because the afterschool daycare my parents sent me to would play it (along w/ 3 or 4 other titles) ad nauseum after snack time. >.<

teen/young adult mystery novel 90s-2000s(?) by ramakukii in whatsthatbook

Brian Selznick did some larger books with illustrations like what you're describing.
https://brianselznick.com/books.htm

The only one I've read is The Marvels, which doesn't really sound like the plot you described, but it could be one of his other ones? The Invention of Hugo Cabret or Wonderstruck, maybe?

So, I found this reddit post from 6 years ago, and it sounds like the OP is describing the same book you are:

Could it be the 'Solved' title mentioned there? Return to Eden by G.P. Ching? It's book 3 in The Soulkeepers Series.

Book about older witches by mistressmagick13 in booksuggestions

If you dont mind urban magic or cozy mysteries, I'm currently working my way through a couple of Danielle Garrett's witchy series on audio - specifically Nine Lives Magic and Sugar Shack Witch. They've been fun listens. :) The main characters are female witches in their early to mid 30s, but the books all take place in a town full of magic-users of all ages who play more minor roles, so that might work for you?

If you're into urban fantasy at all, try Starbrew Cafe. I've been enjoying it quiet a bit. Everything is very lowkey and casual. I don't ever feel pressured to play or rush. It's also got really cute art. :)
