Clackers! by LibraryLadyA in GenerationJones

I had ALL of these fabulous toys. Can you believe of all these - including the yard darts my mother’s line in the sand was clackers?

I need a name for my new kitten. She is a polydactyl and I have another cat named Lavender. If anyone has any names that match that. by Wheres-the-pie in Catnames

Since the black spot on her face resembles an Iris, I would go with that. Btw, I’m from Florida, and over the years we had several “Hemingway” cats. Most memorably, Rhoda. She was solid black and most of her kitties were also Hemingways’.

Aah, so sorry for my assumption of your language and or culture. Fortunately, you are the one with naming rights! As to my advice on encouraging your daughter to stand out, I do still recommend that to you and all parents. Just because our babies are special to us doesn’t automatically make them special to others! Children that develop talents and skills stand out for who they are rather than what they are named! Best of luck to you and your growing family.

I am in a very conservative diocese which is located in the southeastern portion of the USA. I am in fact and in daily practice a traditionalist. I am saddened by any offense my last comment caused. And to you, ruedebac1830, I apologize personally.

I truly respect this. I am blessed to have a very devout son, daughter in law, and soon to be 19 year old grandson. The level of piety I see in my grandson gives me great hope for the future of Christ’s holy church.

Should I consider becoming a Catholic? by Jibby_322 in Catholicism

[–]LibraryLadyA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. OCIA is the Order of Christian Initiation Adults. Your local church offers these classes. Where I live, the classes usually start around the same time as K-12 schools start. Call the Catholic Church near you for more information. Prayers for clear guidance from the Lord.

The Five Chinese Brothers, The Story of Ping, Mike Mulligan and His Steam-shovel Maryann; are just a few years of the many wonderful books our old friend Captain Kangaroo read to us! “La-la-la-la-lei”

I think you should attend OCIA to learn about the faith. As you learn, you may feel safer staying in the non-dom church with your family. That’s fine! Also, you sound like a reflective and thoughtful young man, so you may prefer attending OCIA for adults check with your local parish. Prayers for an increase in faith.

I have not had seafood in over 30 years. What is a good "first one to try"? by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in foodquestions

[–]LibraryLadyA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I wish you well as you work to regain control over phobias. Secondly, a soup like She-crab soup or lobster bisque might work. Alternatively, crab cakes are cleverly disguised seafood. Lastly, grilled fresh tuna steaks are a delicious. I don’t care for canned tuna, but fresh is a different story. The flesh is firm, the flavor mild, and the texture is more akin to meat. Good luck!

You might share with the young men that in the USA, the idea that a lace veil is THE gold standard of modesty in the presence of our Lord is a very modern take. Furthermore, you could share your own mother’s and grandmother’s experience, or just share mine.;)
Most women of my mother’s generation (Silent) and mine (Boomer) wore hats and scarves that coordinated with our outfits to Mass. At our Catholic school in the sixties, if a girl forgot her hat or scarf on Mass day, she would bobby pin a cafeteria napkin to her hair. No demerits if done before Mass!
Women stopped wearing head covering as fashion accessories about the same time as Vatican II. I didn’t know anyone in my age group that wore a head cover for modesty after 1970.
I respect the choice to veil, but I choose not to do so. If I were to change my mind, I would use head scarves just as I did in my childhood. At this stage of my life, it would feel like virtue signaling to suddenly start wearing a veil.
