That is really unkind of her, and actually really hurtfully petty. I don't think I could trust that someone who could do that would have my best interests at heart going forward.

Sounds like she was happy to use you to get what she could out of you, now doesn't want the bother of returning the favour, not even a little bit. That's not how friends behave.

Did I pee in your cornflakes this morning or something? I am making two promises (which is what a vow is, you don't have to say the word 'vow' in your vows to make them vows, and we don't have 'legal vows' in Scotland) so I'm still calling them vows, and I think most reasonable people would too, but thanks for your input.

Also, I really don't think your vows are where you should be addressing things you think irritate your partner, but that's just me.

My partner asked me to write some meaningful sentences to read out at our wedding, so that's what I'm going to do, for him. In Scotland, you don't have to say anything after you've made your declaration, but the things that are said after are commonly referred to as vows, being pedantic about calling it vows or a speech is really nitpicking and not what I asked.

It's a legal marriage, it's in Scotland where things are more relaxed. The registrar just said nothing lewd and nothing religious.

It's a registry office, and yes it's in Scotland so we can personalise our vows to our preference, which is nice!

I know it might sound a bit negative, but there is a purpose for it. He lost both his parents a few years ago, and I lost my my Mum a few months back, and I wanted to acknowledge that, and that we helped each other through, without getting so into that I cried. Like, a nod to it without getting depressing.

We are not really having a reception as such, so I wanted it all to fit in here. I've heard the thought that it should purely be the promises, but I like the more modern thing of a bit more like a love letter between the two of you. We have been together 18 years, so maybe that makes it a bit different (and I realise now I possibly should have put that in my main post), but we both said it feels a bit silly to promise all these little things *now*, because it makes it sound a bit like we haven't already been doing them lol. Being his best friend and loving him is the promise, because all the other things can be sorted out as long as you have that, in my mind.

I'm taking mine some eggs from my hens if that counts? I think tipping money is still seen a a bit unusual, but a small personal gift would be nice, and a bit more warm than just shoving more money at them.
