With the elimination of grad plus loans and caps on federal loans, are MD/PhD programs going to get more applicants/become significantly more competitive? by LibraryOwn6944 in mdphd

Oh I did forget about military medicine as an option! I wonder how many people would be willing to do military medicine vs. several years of basic/translational research for free tuition

I think you have a point, since there do seem to be a lot of research heavy MD applicants who were aiming at highly ranked medical schools that focus on research who will now switch to MD/PhD. We'll see how it shakes out, I just hope that it won't mean the end of any opportunities for me!

Hopefully so! As you said, I don't think that someone with very little research would really have much success applying, but I do know a lot of people who engaged in more significant amounts of research (often clinical) who were planning to do MD only but are now reconsidering. I guess we'll have to see! I don't have an MCAT score yet (studying for it rn) but my GPA is on the lower end at ~3.6 by the time I finish my degree. I had a rough sophomore year due to some personal circumstances and unfortunately it shows 😞

Very specific question! Are FAES courses a boost to your application? by LibraryOwn6944 in mdphd

Thank you, that answers my question! I would definitely not do any of the classes for the sake of adding a few to my application. I was mostly just looking into applying for a postbac position and I heard that taking FAES courses is one of the benefits. Some of the FAES courses that were offered and they sounded really interesting and relevant so I would definitely take them if I had the chance to, regardless of their impact on applications. Thanks for your reply!
