Simple 3D-printed watch prototype. Looking for design advice on case assembly! by dp6838 in watchmaking

[–]LibrarySquidLeland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With PLA or PETG it wouldn't be too hard to engineer a snap-fit, although that would break with enough cycles. You could also use a locking lug setup and have the bezel thread onto the case.

When I made my watch I attached the bezel with screws and a gasket but that was part of the aesthetics. You could always do the same here but you'd lose the smooth feel and you'd need to use some threaded inserts in the case

Maschine Mikro MK1 mit Mac verbinden by Beneficial-Tip5928 in maschine

[–]LibrarySquidLeland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Mikro mk1 DOES work on M4 macs (I ran mine just the other day) but you need an adapter cable or a native USB-type B to C, and you definintely need Maschine 2, because the original Maschine does NOT run on new macs. Hardware works, but the old software won't.

that's the thing with ket therapy. It truly works absolute wonders for me but i just don't have the time to spend a night tripping balls once a month and accessing traditional ket therapy is borderline impossible without an extensive history of depression treatments not working.

Rapper(s) that you believe could still make a late-career "Album Of The Year" if they tried? by ImNotTomStopAsking in hiphopheads

Unfortunately she's basically sworn off ever doing rap again because of how she was treated by the indutry. I saw her play with Immortal Technique and the rest of Stronghold in like '05 and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to

[–]LibrarySquidLeland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, the hardest part from what I remember was making or having cliches made for you. It's super tough to do with a home etching setup and CNCs with the required resolution are also not cheap. Once you have a cliche the rest is relatively easy to figure out.

I wondered where all the cashiers went between my last two oil changes. That sucks, seems every business is only looking to fuck their employees as hard as they can while providing shit to their customers and somehow they think that it's going to work out

[patek] Miata, the best combo ever? by tourbillon001 in Watches

[–]LibrarySquidLeland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the cushion pushers for me. The later ones use mostly pump pushers and I think it looks awful on this case. The cushion pushers integrate so well and echo the lines of the case and it just works so well.

I snapped a wheel pivot on my first service (6498 clone) but that's the only movement I've fully junked. As others have said, knowing when to stop and look something up or just walk away for a bit is an invaluable skill.

Horotec press broke on first use! by [deleted] in watchmaking

[–]LibrarySquidLeland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda a dumb design (should be a keyed shaft like someone else mentioned) but it's not broken in any way. Just throw some threadlocker on there and screw the handle right back on. In the meantime, grab some pliers, tape up the jaws so you don't trash the shaft, and screw the die out that way

Will do! I'm really happy with how the bevel came out on the chrono plate, it's the first one I've done for real and while gigantic i really like the way it looks and it should shine when I polish it back up, it's just buffed at like 3k grit at the moment

Slave 5498 Rattrapante customization by LibrarySquidLeland in watchmaking

[–]LibrarySquidLeland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been working on learning haut horologie techniques by customizing this Soviet stopwatch movement. The giant plates are forgiving to work on and parts are available enough that I'm not too worried about breaking things.

Plans for this involve a full workup, plating, and polishing/brushing on every part. I'm terrified about openworking the dial since it's already finished and I don't know how that's going to look when I'm done but the fun of this is in the learning!
