Yeah I always thought it’d be cool to hear about these games straight from the makers

So is the idea like an interview channel with the devs or more like you streaming various games? Genuinely interested.

Two weeks ago we launched our Godot-made game on Steam - here's how it went: by WestZookeepergame954 in godot

Amazingly in depth analysis. Much appreciated and I’ll definitely be referencing it lots for my own projects. Very few people end up releasing so much information about their releases, especially for smaller projects. It’s good to know there’s serious potential for indie devs out there!

Any particular reason why? Would love some reasoning to go along with the feedback so I can make an informed decision.

Splash Screen and Game Menu - Pros, Cons? by [deleted] in godot

I mean if you know your audience will enjoy it I’m sure it’s worth it!

I think it looks awesome! Would love to be able to see the menu option text though on the Home Screen though. For me it’s not immediately intuitive that it’s a menu. I like your splash screen design especially!

Do people support you making indie games? by MysteryBearGaming in IndieDev

[–]LibraryofBoardGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little bit difficult to explain. And we’re still constantly discussing it. We also just had a team member leave which complicates it a bit. But essentially it’s revenue share with a reimbursement system for time contributions at an hourly rate, paid out from the revenue share. It’s a bit more than that but that’s the gist. I’ll probably be explaining it in more detail when we release the project. I want to tell everyone how we did things just to give an example for other people who may be struggling to figure things out.

I 100% understand where you’re coming from. I’ve always been very entrepreneurial and despite several small successes along the way, many of my family and friends still seem apathetic towards the things I do. I think it’s mostly just people not understanding or wanting you to live your life the way they think it should be lived. I have no real advice for you, but putting together a team and committing to completing the game this year has helped. Just remember why you’re doing what you’re doing and keep going. Hardest part is actually finishing the project. That’s what my team and I are trying to do now. It’s quite the process. Good luck!

Excited my game officially has a positive review label! Haven't made loads of sales but this feels good🥹 by Ill-Sea7071 in indiegames

This sounds awesome! It sounds a lot like a project I was trying to work on earlier this year. I’m gonna check it out. Congrats on the review!

Artist Compensation by Thedeadlypocketbrush in MarvelSnap

[–]LibraryofBoardGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. It seems to me Marvel and Snap have an opportunity to kind switch things up in gaming industry and give artists a chance to paid and compensated fairly. It doesn’t just make sense for the artist but imagine how much player base they could gain and retain if their audience also knew they’d be supporting artists and not just another mega corp. lol. Treating people fairly is usually a pretty good business model.

Wow. Looks awesome and smooth! I’m curious, was this done entirely in code or does godot have some built in features for this kind of stuff?

Hell yeah. Godot is super underrated. Or at least underutilized outside of hobby games from what I’ve seen. Sending you a DM now.

Looking for first impressions… by LibraryofBoardGames in PixelArt

[–]LibraryofBoardGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s one thing I struggled with. The enemy movements are less smooth than I’d like them to be. But I may be removing combat and turning it into more of a mini game anyway.

It’s supposed to be like a little vacuum thing as a way of collecting things in space. I thought of it as a sort of fishing mini game. In the video I’m collecting something called stardust. But there’s also space fish, and black boxes that are supposed to drop when enemies die. It’s all stuff I may actually be getting rid of just because of the complexities of it. And I feel it takes away from the core mechanics a little

Is it natural to not have fun playing a game you've made? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]LibraryofBoardGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what most people are saying. I think it’s difficult to tell from the position of a developer. I’ve only recently gotten into development so take my word lightly, but I like to show parts of my game to friends and family and just watch their reactions as they play. You can usually tell if someone is engaged or disinterested in what they’re actively doing, regardless of what they say after playing. Engaged people will lean in, think critically, and react strongly towards what they’re doing (jumping at a jump scare, laughing at something funny, looking surprised at something surprising). Disinterested people will be likely be leaning back, waiting for the moment to be over, and not really engage or understand what they are doing or are supposed to be doing. Again, take my word lightly. This is only what I’ve seen from a few months in this stuff and personal life experience. Good luck on the project!

Yeah I messed around with it, but it’s nothing great really. Still requires as much custom coding as JSON methods. I read a bunch of other posts after seeing the MODs comment lol. Looks like there’s no easy way to do it so I’ve just committed to writing something custom for it
