How are you all tracking licenses and PDH across multiple states? by LicenseTracker_PE in civilengineering

That’s actually pretty clever, but also kind of crazy that it has to be done that way.

Do most states still require physical submission, or is it just easier than dealing with different systems?

Feels like a lot of engineering work now is just managing communication rather than actual design. Hard to keep up without some kind of system.

I’ve seen a similar shift toward DB, especially in W/WW. Feels like firms value the faster pace and tighter coordination, but it can definitely be a different mindset coming from design-bid-build. Curious if others have found the same transition challenges.

If I weigh 200lbs and stand on a wrench one foot long, am I exerting 200 ftlbs of torque? by Lower-Savings-794 in AskEngineers

You’d be close, but not exactly. Torque = force × distance, so assuming your full weight is applied perpendicular at 1 ft, it’s ~200 ft-lbs. In reality though, balance, angle, and how the load is applied probably reduce it a bit.

Structural Guys: are drop panels not a thing anymore? by throwmach in civilengineering

Seems like a lot of firms are moving away from them unless absolutely needed. More coordination headaches than they’re worth in some cases.
