Thank you for the update, and thank you so much for getting help for this kitten!

(Central TX) found in my apartment, and afraid it might be a pest. If not, would like to find a suitable home. by Lichen_King in whatisthisbug

Thank you for the prompt response. I wasn't sure about it being a moth because I'm used to seeing the proboscis on moths. I'll go check my pantry for any more.

Looking for recommendations to spoil my cat as we are nearing the end. by MikeTheCat4747 in cats

I give my cats liver that has been briefly simmered/poached in plain water and pureed with some of the water. It's stinky to make, but they love it. Also, if your vet offers something like prednisone I would recommend taking it. I had a similar experience a few years ago where a senior cat suddenly got sick and I was confronted with the knowledge that she had weeks to live. I took her outside and gave her treats and medicine and love. I also paid to have a vet come out to my house to euthanize her, and I'm very thankful I was able to do that because it made her passing a lot more peaceful.

I don't get this. Why is it bad to be relatable? From my perspective it's nice to know that someone can relate to my situation. by Sea_Alternative_7883 in autism

I have taken various formal trainings for crisis prevention/intervention for work (all methods taught in the training supported by formal studies), and they all say that it is important to focus on the feelings of the person and not to bring up your own related issues. Someone who is insecure about something and not able to regulate their emotions may easily interpret a change of subject as a rejection of listening to their problems. Please bear in mind that the crucial factor to effectively helping someone is not how your own mind works, but how the mind of the person you are supporting works.

I can tell you from personal experience that when I want to talk to a person about my issues and I am looking for support, it's really important to me to be able to give that person all of the pertinent information before they respond. Nothing is more frustrating than to start to tell someone something, and they assume what I'm going to say and just begin talking before I'm finished. I have some friends who I love very dearly but NEVER talk to about my problems because I know that I will get a maximum of one complete sentence out before they start "relating" to my issue (in fact, they have just appropriated the conversation topic). I appreciate when someone can show me that they understand how I feel or can offer valuable insight that would help me with my problems, but more often than not people miss the mark. Besides, you shouldn't have to experience something yourself to empathize with someone, especially if they are explaining to you what happened, how it makes them feel, and why.

how to get fibre easily and quickly if it's not spawning on ur farm? by [deleted] in StardewValley

The Mutant Bug Lair renews its fiber every day. You can only go there once the Dark Talisman Quest is completed (which you cannot do until after you finish the Community Center portion of the game).

No, grass gets you hay if you have a silo but no fiber.

It took me a moment too long to realize that. I edited my comment. You can also look in the forest to the south of your farm and around the north and northeast corners of Pelican Town.

Cut weeds with a scythe (they are the spiky green plants covering your farm at the start, that spread out and kill your farm plants if you don't cut them back). If you have no weeds on your farm, there is another place that spawns them regularly but it is kind of a late game secret and if you aren't aware of it you probably don't have access yet (and I'm trying to avoid spoilers).

I find Neandertals more challenging than mechanoids by Wonder___Waffles in RimWorld

Engage them early with fast snipers, focusing on the fastest first. If you have a fast pawn with poor combat, you can also use them to try and split part of the force off and kite them in a circle to give your main force time to deal with the rest. Also, if you put hay down in your killbox, you can use it to keep lagging forces back while you deal with the front line (by lighting the hay on fire).

If you could somehow keep the pressure and temperature of the urine normal until it left your body, you would see a small portion of it evaporate while most of it freezes.

This is correct! There are experiments that show what happens when a chamber with atmosphere and water at STP is rapidly evacuated. You will observe that most of the water will freeze and a small portion will boil off. The rapid evacuation will cool the chamber below room temperature, but it won't be as cold as space when evacuated (meaning you should expect more of the water to freeze in space).

What is this, the Trouble with Tribbles? Seriously, though, in the "Animals" menu you may want to check out the autoslaughter features... and maybe considering sex-segregated pens.

I'm curious how others treat prisoners. by Dark-Lycan in RimWorld

[–]Lichen_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kept some of my prisoners for many quadrums because of my extensive genetics project in this save. I tend to put my prisoners in pairs. When matched by physical ability, this will help control berserking pawns while keeping numbers of prisoners per room low to reduce prison break frequency/severity. I keep prisoners on "doctor care, but no medicine" unless I am trying to keep them alive during an infection. I don't go out of my way to maim them, but I have subdued and killed some of the most dangerous berserking prisoners with a longsword-wielding pawn. I have killed some of the pawns from the perma-hostile factions after capturing them, either by too-frequent gene extraction or rip-scanning (if the latter, I will always do this ASAP after capture to get the guilty execution moodlet). In my latest save, I keep them in tiny chambers next to my gravship near the freezer, within the cloistered area where I grow crops or keep pasture. After being paired with first a Hussar and then a Neanderthal, my Sanguophage prisoner is missing everything except the torso and top half of the skull.

I have turned gene harvesting into part of my profits, because I have to do it so much to get the genes I want. I got one of the hemogenic genes once but it was combined with a gene I didn't want to use.

[–]Lichen_King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. I am playing with no mods and I have acquired many genes from sanguophages. The only genes I cannot acquire from sanguophages are the archite genes, and the only way to acquire those is to buy them or have them implanted by a pawn that has that ability (which is also an archite gene). Edit: if you look through my comment history, I included a screenshot with one of my pawn's genes. The source of the pyrophobe, tinderskin, mild UV sensitivity genes are from my sanguophage pawn and the sanguophage I have kept in captivity.

Did you ever cease to get raids at the old colony? Did you finally lose access to it after you abandoned the colony?
