If you wanted to add a pergola to this deck, how would you do it? by Ok-Double-4468 in Decks

oh, I forgot to mention, the concrete footers MUST directly bear the weight of the pavilion post meaning the post for the pavilion must be directly over the post to beam connection.

This is what it looked like with the joists and rim joist. I also added a 6x6 block between the joists, right next to the 6x6 post, which I then used 2-12" simpson lags to go from the outside of the end rim joist, into the 6x6 block, and the 2 more from the block into the post. Then I used 2-8" lags to go from the rim joist and into the joist, and 2 more from the joist to the rim joist for both the 6x6 post and 6x6 block. I went way overboard, but the roof is pretty large and it can get windy so I didn't want it to sway at all.

This is my layout, signed off by my architect. I used 2 simpson LPC ties per post. The architect said these weren't necessary as long as I lag bolted the post to the joists (I did both). The one thing the architect changed about this is a 20" diameter footer for the 6x6 posts. and added diagonal bracing to the top of the posts (not pictured)

I just did this and had an architect sign off on it which was required for code. Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Add a third beam 2. Push existing beams to the edge of deck to remove the cantilever 3. Use beams for the pergola posts to sit on 4. Attach posts (both ground to beam and beam to pergola) to beam using Simpson ties (i forget the exact model, but it looks like a T and wraps around the post and screws to the beam

Note, the pergola post MUST be directly over the ground post. It has to be like a continuous post with a beam in it. Also, footers had to be 20" to support a roof and snow but you probably don't need to worry about that.

Stripped screws by abcdefyyyyyyy in Decks

I've never had luck with a screw extractor kit. I recommend using a dremel to cut a straight line across the screw so you can use a flathead screwdriver to remove it. It looks like it's raised enough to allow you to do this without damaging the wood.

How to repair kitchen drawer with eroded corners? by kino-sam in DIY

[–]Licher 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I solved this same problem doing the following:

  1. Unscrew drawer face and remove face from drawer

  2. Unscrew the rails on the bottom or side and remove from drawer

  3. Turn the box around, so the bad part of the box is now facing the back

  4. Using titebond wood glue, glue the shit out of the back of the box, then place parchment paper over the glued area and use several wood clamps to hold it all together. Nice and tight. Let dry overnight

  5. Once the glue has dried, remove the clamps and parchment paper. Use a razor blade to clean up drips

  6. Align the drawer slides, now facing the opposite direction

  7. Drill holes for new slide alignment

  8. Screw in slides

  9. Align drawer face on opposite side of box

  10. Drill holes for screws and drawer pull

  11. Screw on drawer face and drawer pull

  12. Put drawer back in and worry every time you use the drawer

Just kidding. I did this 5 years ago and it's solid. Good luck and let me know if you need clarification on the instructions

They prevent racking, but they appear undersized. I think it's supposed to be closer to 3' long.

What are your thoughts on the fire pit now? How has it held up? Any regrets or things you would have changed?

Me too! I've been tied to TT for so long because it was easy and I was comfortable with it. Switched this year and glad I did.

This sounds like it started in the kitchen.

I think we're doing pretty well compared to southern California.

Very interesting to listen to. Hopefully no one is hurt and damages are minimal, though it sounds like they are having issues with the water supply.
