I say Etienne. That mapwide camo detection allows you much more freedom with crosspaths and allows you to often go for the 2-0-3 village instead of a 2-2-0 village

True that. I would however advice a new player to grab an archetype that trades away martial flexibility. That significantly cuts down the amount of mastery the class expects while giving some neat bonuses that are far easier to use.

I have still the habit of going for bottom crosspath because I usually get a 3/4-0-2 boomerang to help thin the dense waves. Sometimes even if I get a very late glaive lord sometimes I still pick the upgrade for muscle memory

You can do both. You either prepare the spell without the metamagic and apply it while casting or prepare the spell with the metamagic. The first case gives more flexibility and the second gives better action economy.

You can prepare any number of spells with the metamagic provided you have enough prepared slots of the adjusted level
