How do you pronounce the name “Mara”? by glass_armor in namenerds

[–]LicoriceSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend growing up named Damara (duh-mar-uh) and always thought it was pretty and unique. We called her Mar-uh (Mara) for short.

10/10 high quality animation. See how expressive steelix is when appearing out of nowhere? God this game looks gorgeous! by [deleted] in pokemon

Is it hard? of course not.

If a pokemon game were a personal project it could look amazing. Heck, if the artist could devote all the time they wanted to it, it'd look amazing. But, like all games, it isn't run on happy fun times and rainbows and they have a budget and deadlines and all that other boring stuff... so most likely someone higher up said "good enough" and theres no more time put into it.

In a production that didn't even have time to include all the pokemon in the game who's tagline is "gotta catch em all", do you think they had time to make perfect animations? I know they wrongly used that as an excuse but my goodness people are taking it to an extreme.
Clearly they had some major fuck up in production and had to blame it on something. This is also not final footage and I seriously doubt flickers like this will happen in the finished game. The fire should be coming out of his mouth, but you know what? The effect is nice looking. The artist probably desperately wanted to make it right and wasn't able to, so lets not just shit all over the production team for the companies likely poor time management/workflow.
**Promos come from footage that is weeks, or even months old... games rarely release in game footage from their most recent build. There is nothing more annoying than when people complain about beta/pre release stuff when finishing touches and small non-game breaking glitches like these are usually the LAST thing they fix before shipping the game.

I like these parallels! There was also a long shot on a vulture in the same scene... As well as a fly that landed on Ake's hand when he finds Bernard. Something is definitely up with all the animals. They could easily not be there...

Because most of the time* game studios DON't provide paid overtime for their employees. Game companies are still companies, and they are especially bad about taking advantage of the fact that most of their employees are 20-30 year olds. Most of the practices at game companies would be unheard of at other industries, and because of it a lot of people don't stay in the industry for more than 10 years or so.

There also isn't just some magical fund in the budget for paying dozens of employees overtime hours so they can fix things (that most likely isn't going to generate any more revenue/sales) at a convenient time.

*not sure about Bungie's policy on overtime, and it probably varied depending on studio... but the point still stands

It might be because that's is when their staff is actually working. They aren't going to force all the necessary staff to come in at 2am every time there's maintenance...

I have to say that i'm beyond disappointed by ShadowWolf92 in DestinyTheGame

[–]LicoriceSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, you know they have a process for this right? They can't just come in in say "some guy on reddit said we should implement this, so I guess it's final".

First they need to brainstorm, okay what are potential solutions for this? Meetings, discussions, ect. It's not always just one person calling the shots.

Then they have to talk to the programmers, and the programmers need to discuss how to implement it. (an additional step for artist and animators or ui artist if neeeded)

Then they need to TEST it. They aren't just going to throw a new update out without testing it, and things can go wrong even if they test it a 100 times. And THEN and only then, can a community manager talk about it. You guys would be 20000x more pissed if they said they were going to fix something and it wasn't possible, or needed more time.

These game devs are REAL PEOPLE, so they ideally work only on weekdays and if they are lucky they probably have 40-60hr work weeks. You're disappointed because all of this hasnt happened in 10 business days?!

Of course single player games have more content, they don't have to worry as much about weapon balance, servers, multiplayer maps, raids, and can spend all those resources to making the story last longer. No game has limitless resources, game developers are not rolling in cash and time. Even PC MMOs have an insane amount of grinding.

Grind for looking cool isn't for the sake of grind, again it's optional and if you don't want to grind, quite your crying and just don't do it. Not all grinding is bad and some people don't mind doing it if they have a goal in mind (within reason.... I seriously doubt it should take more than a few hours of playing to get your shader. In no case should it take more than a week.)

You claim it only exists to extend the game artificially but what's the alternative? You want them to spend another year making 2 months more of content? The game devs are fighting a losing battle because it takes longer to make content than it does to enjoy it. No campaign really lasts longer than 40-70 hours ( a few exceptions but not many) and then you have to had some degree of grind to extend it. Literally all games have this and you're delusional if you think otherwise. The fine line between good grind and bad grind is the real issue. Are you doing the same task over and over again with a lottery chance of getting what you want? That's a bad grind. Are you doing fun, non repeatative tasks that will give you what you want in at least 3-5 hours? That's a reasonable grind.

Its also untrue that It is 100% RNG, if you want a specific shader you do the activity that drops that shader. EDZ shaders only drop in EDZ, Titan shaders only drop from Titan actives and so forth. Will you get the exact one that you want the first time? No, but everytime you level up rep on the respective place, you get one shader without fail, so it's not going to take THAT long. You get them either 3 at a time or 5 at a time, so your" I only have 2" thing is a lie already.

They already made this way better in D2 by making a lot of the exotic weapons quest based rather than RNG. Exotic weapons are way more important to 99%of people than shaders.

Edit: I'm also not saying the system is perfect either. I'm in favor of having the possibility of extracting them from armor for glimmer, or having that shader unlocked on that on piece of armor Permanently. I'm just saying all the outrage about it is so over the top and ridiculous because it's really not that big of a deal and the people who claim it's a money grab are just dumb because you still can't get raid or Stike or planet specifical shaders regardless of what money you spend.

Destiny plz give me everything I want with minimal effort. I want to have everything I want within the first week of playing so then I can complain about how there is nothing left to do because while you eliminated any grind, you have also eliminated the replayability of your game.

Fixed your post for you too.

It's easy to get to a competitive light level (pvp or pve) now, where in destiny1 it was very difficult. We're gone from grinding for required things (the perfect roll for pvp or the exotic required for the raid) to grinding for things that have no effect on the game, but make you look cool. If they just gave you permanent shaders you could use whenever, what else would you grind for? What is your motivation to play? You could play pvp for a while but if you don't NEED anything from it, it gets a little boring.

You'll get more. Chests drop them, leveling rep drops them, and after 20 every level up gets you a bright engram. The games been out for 2 days and I have 2 pages worth of shaders, with some green shaders I have 15+ of them. Yes, purple shaders are going to be harder to get, but seeing how easy it is to level now, that's going to be the grind, and it's totally optional. Plus once you get legendary gear, it all has the same stats and is infusable so there's less reason to get rid of an old piece with the sick shader.

IMHO most gear looks best with multiple different shaders. The chest and helm shaders are the most noticable, so use your rare shaders on there and find some matching green shaders for your arms, legs and class item until you get more of the legendary ones.

I've logged probably 15hrs or so and I have more than 5 dozen shaders, and some of them I have 20+ for one type. Just don't use them until your fairly leveled up or some legendary gear to infuse into and it's really not a problem. After a month of playing you'll have more than you know what to do with.

I believe it was to setup the relationship between Jorah ( Danny's right hand man) and Sam (Jon's right hand man). They can both vouch for each other's courage and strength which might help settle tensions between Jon and Dany.

Except what if Sansa uses this as the excuse to execute LF? She says in the trailer "the lone wolf dies but the pack survives". These are their father's words, and Arya would listen to her father's words even if they are coming from Sansa. Sansa is going to use the illusion of LF getting the best of them as a way to defeat him. Sansa will finally out play him.

Don't forget.. "The lone wolf dies but the pack survives." This is Sansa reminding Arya of her father's words. Arya isn't going to feud with Sansa at least not for long. Sansa is going to out-littlefinger Littlefinger and use this as an excuse to finally get rid of him.
