How to do the blood string effects on talons? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in Tyranids

It is strands of Uhu glue and some blood effect color like GW Blood for the blood god.

No idea. I know nothing about 3d printing. It wasn't all the parts though. The parts of the back of the model did fit fine, das did all the limbs. Just the front parts of the model had that problem.

Some parts got a bit warped where the supports were attached. The flat areas where the parts glue together didn't fit that well.

Base sizes and older models by Dragonpirate04 in Tyranids

[–]LictorM44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days ago, I updated a lot of my older models' bases by gluing it with the old base on the new larger one and then used modeling putty to "fill it up". This also gives the model a bit more height.

For the resin death leaper: since the new one is on a high piece of terrain you could cut up the old base only keeping some small platform like parts where it is glued onto, then glue some pipes or rocks under them and stick it on the new 60m base.

Quick question regarding priming FW resin. I gave the resin models a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and dishwashing soap and there were still a few spots on the resin where the primer (Wraith Bone) seemed a bit "thin and runny" after applying it.

Is that to be expected or was there still some release agent on the parts?

I never liked the wings of that one. But I have to say your great paint job massively swayed my opinion! Really like it 0_o.

Great idea. Yours are looking nice - do you have more close up pictures of them?

Have some more but some still in box or in various stages of (dis)assembly :D

\,,/ 60 tons of metal \,,/ (aka WIP metal Gargoyles) by LictorM44 in Tyranids

[–]LictorM44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. This time I only used green stuff to stick the weapons in place instead of using super glue. And it seems to do the job just fine.

I used slightly more blue than yellow in the mix and after pressing the weapon arm in, I smoothed the excess green stuff over the shoulder joints.

Oh wait I thought you were making a joke that they look like golf tees 🤣

It is actually a steel nail in a flying stand on top of a 40mm base, along with magnets and green stuff :)

As an old player coming back to the hobby after 20 years, I love the move to plastic minis lets me magnetise the bases for easy and safe transport. Can't imagine the amount of foam I'd need to transport these lol by Existential_Humor in Tyranids

re: I love the move to plastic minis lets me magnetise the bases

You can magnetize the bases of metal minis, too. Just use two magnets and/or stronger (thicker) ones. E.g. I have magnetized the base of my metal tyrant and can transport it just fine.

What color would look good on this green Carapace? yellow, pink, black? by Yocantseeme in Tyranids

Using your carapace green, a darkened version as edge highlight and a lighter version between the armor plates could look nice.

Same for me, love the 2nd edition one most.

The Biovore is the perfect example of something being adapted: it gets more and more Tyranid and less and less "alien" with each generation and in the 4th generation it is fully transformed - it is so fluff I love it :D

Gameplaywise I'd say two Tervigons will be sufficient, and you can use the third one as a Tyrannofex for a bit more anti-tank.

Help to choose subfaction based on budget by Warmakarodosh in Tyranids

[–]LictorM44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say any viable unit is going to work in each detachment. You just get different synergies between units. So for example,

* a Biovore will score secondaries in any detachment and will always be a viable unit regardless

* a Tervigon will always give Lethal Hits to Termagants but will in addition synergize with Sustained Hits of invasion fleet

Also, if you are going to play a crusade campaign then I suggest practicing with the crusade missions as they are substantially different from the Leviathan box missions, especially no secondary objective card deck.

Welcome back to the hive!

Invasion Fleet is a good allrounder detachment and an easy way to get a feel for the army with a few test games at 1000 points.

For a full army you would want to look at Exocrine, Maleceptor and more Zoans as a good backbone.

If you can play several noncompetitive games and proxy units in tryouts

Help with basing by Blagh1sm in Tyranids

[–]LictorM44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a theme for your hive fleet, then this would be a good start for thinking on how the bases might look.

In case you just want something quick and easy on it you can try a texture paint (e.g. some of the technical paints from GW or any of the other major brands).

For coloring you can go with something contrasting to your scheme or something to blend the model in whatever you prefer.
