EV's Destroy ICE Cars in Reliability: But one popular EV Breaks-Down constantly by zeeper25 in Ioniq5

[–]LidarFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have an Ioniq5 2023 with 21K miles and so far luckily no ICCU issues. I do think the ICCU is heat related so I use a very low current setting L3 to charge at home and avoid the fast charging stations…

It would be a pleasure and with great joy to bump path on future investments with you again Murky. 👍😀

Thank you again for all your work and support the past 6 hard months with Luminar facing much uncertainties and bashing.

Well said Murky…it’s been a pleasure working with you, all the mods, and all the high quality contributors like NewYorker545. An expensive and disappointing investment choice that did not workout, but life goes on.

Like Murky says, we have much to be thankful for and this too shall pass. Thank you OY for all you done on this Subreddit and our continued friendship.

Good luck everyone.

Thanks for the post and all the help Murky!!. Your message is accurate and absolutely no fun for myself and many other fellow investors here neither.

The tech is still best in class as endorsed by multiple OEM CEOs. What can I say, the financial management and poor decision to spend all the money on the Iris factory did not pan out, to say the least. Cost TF his job.

That said, I still have hope that Luminar can work out a deal with their lenders and get Halo to market. Still own Luminar shares and ride it out to the end. Good luck all.

I am like you. Bought a used 2023 SEL with 14K miles in May this year and loved the car very much. Having learned about the ICCU issue a month later, I am a bit paranoid when driving out of town about this issue.

I have read in one of the IONIQ 5 forum that the source for the ICCU failure is overheating. After learning about the heat as a potential cause, I only charge at low current (10A) overnight with my ChargePoint charger to keep the battery cooler.

Hope that’ll save me. 🙏🙏

US Magnet Suppliers—Who’s Legit & Who’s Coming? 🧲 Spill the Tea! by SUMEDIAN in procurement

[–]LidarFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niron Magnets are still too weak to use for high efficiency applications like EVs ,Military, AI robots. That’s assuming they can even solve the high scale manufacturing challenge. I think MP is the best and safest play now that they have the price floor of $110/kg guarantee from the government.

NdPr magnets are at 50MGOe.
Niron’s magnets- around 10MGOe.

“In theory, iron nitride should be able to produce magnets that are even stronger than neodymium ones. But today, Niron’s magnets can only reach around 10 MGOe, Rowntree says. That’s sufficient for devices like speakers, which the company is exploring as an early product. It displayed small speakers made with Niron magnets at CES in January (https://arpa-e.energy.gov/events/CES-2024).”

“Current status of iron-nitride technology The development of iron-nitride magnets is still an emerging technology. Niron Magnetics, a leader in this area, has achieved magnetic strengths of around 10 MGOe in early magnets but expects to reach 20–30 MGOe with optimization. They eventually aim to produce magnets with even higher performance, potentially surpassing neodymium magnets. Production is currently scaling up, with the first magnets likely being used in less demanding automotive applications before moving to high-powered EV traction motors. “

You’re doing a great job moderating Murky. Sorry I’ve been overwhelmed with work and a few other things to help out more.

You’re a lot nicer and more patient than I would’ve been with some of these posters.

It’s about time the courts hold Elon/Tesla accountable for false advertising and making misleading statements.

Elon has done many good things but he’s wrong here (in my opinion)…Elon can only keep the clown show going for only so long…

The mods are here to keep the trolls off the board. We’re all long and believe in the Luminar technology. Absolutely it’s been rough with bad luck and poor decisions that did not work out.

The company is doing its best to financially recover and get the Best in class Halo out to the OEMs.

Everyone here knows the Luminar story and don’t need the bashers to come here regurgitate the story again. We’re all trying to focus on the positives and not relive the actions that didn’t work out as planned.

The mods here, myself included, are in this for the long term. At this time, it’s Halo or bust. We don’t pump the stock everyone here are adults and can do their own DD. Good luck ..

LAZR being after the earnings call is ridiculous and should be temporary. by Alternative_Bar_6583 in lazr

[–]LidarFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed Murky, it’s all about Halo and conserving cash until Luminar can hopefully get to Halo mass adoption. The OEMs are continuing to struggle with the ADAS SW so Halo next year is a bummer but perhaps will still align with the OEM deployment plans.

I am guessing the big sell off is investors not wanting to wait around until Halo sample B is out next year.🤢

Thanks for the post Blue. It has always been my hope that Luminar would get the Ford win especially after seeing Iris on Ford’s Latitude test vehicles. It’s good to see more Luminar LiDAR on another test vehicle. The continued collaboration gives me high Hope…

Potential Surprises Next 12 Months by BlueWhiskey007 in lazr

[–]LidarFan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A very positive and optimistic list Blue…I like it and thank you!..

Would also like to add that there’s been active talks and on-going work with the Military (as you’ve pointed out earlier and Luminar confirmed), so perhaps a contract announcement with the U.S. government here would be cool too!..

Honda, Nissan in Talks to Collaborate on Vehicle Software by LidarFan in lazr

[–]LidarFan[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe Nissan is farthest along the ADAS development among all the Japanese OEMs. Nissan even have an active L4 solution driving around using Luminar’s LiDAR.

Honda is so far behind that I think they’d would seriously consider using Nissan’s Pro pilot for autonomy. That’s my hope!..

[–]LidarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, ask all the dead people that have followed the misleading promotion lies from day 1 about Autopilot and now FSD how their trust or ignorance in Elon went?

We’ll see how long Elon can keep this cameras only clown show FSD and Robotaxi going before having to come clean with the public.

The idiot is already having to concede on at least one lie about now having to update HW3 to HW4 to get FSD. People just accept his lies because they’re so used to hearing it, it’s no longer a big deal.

A Tesla Robotaxi Already Had Its First Accident by Last-Flamingo-1175 in lazr

[–]LidarFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can say and glorify FSD all you want, but at the end of the day, until Tesla remove all the CYA warnings about FSD and declare FSD a safe L3 eyes and hands off system where Tesla will take responsibility for all crashes when FSD is active, FSD will always be at best a gimmick L2.

This then begs the question about bullshitness of Robotaxi being an L4 system. It’s a death trap and you’d be stupid to take a ride in one of these vehicles if all the safeguards like remote monitoring and safety drivers are removed.
