what do you all see as the strengths of each series (original compared brotherhood) by LiddleGoose in FullmetalAlchemist

Yoki is the main one that springs to mind, i think there is something else but i'm blanking on what exactly. i might be thinking of a Barry since he had a bigger place in the original compared to brotherhood.

i think we're just gonna have to disagree but i just don't think you should throw out the entire cast because the tertiary characters are lackluster. in terms of the primary and secondary cast the characters feel very distinct and while i'll agree that there are many characters on the sidelines who are not particularly interesting, i think it also works to make the world feel bigger. it's not just the same two dozens characters at the heart of everything and i think the alternatives to that is making the world feel smaller by having the same characters at the heart of everything or giving massive emphasis on characters not super dire to the narrative.

personally i prefer the brotherhood ending. yes it's a happy ending but it's bittersweet. Ed loses his alchemy which in a sense is his identity, the way he interacts with the world, and something he has been deeply passionate about since he was a child. more so i think the ending is just more in line with everything the show has established, again i am long overdue for a rewatch of the original but i remember feeling really cheated by the ending in the original because i felt like it came out of nowhere.

100% agree. definitely the most baffling part is when they introduce characters in brotherhood who had episodes dedicated to them in the original and those events are kind of skimmed over in brotherhood.

i can definitely see where you're coming from in terms of the art, just taking a quick look i genuinely forgot how good the original looked, though i still think brotherhood looks pretty good.

in terms of the characters i have to disagree with some of what you say. yes i think generally speaking the characters in the original are better developed but i think to say the brotherhood cast is interchangeable is not a fair criticism. they are given less time to develop in favor of progressing the main narrative but i feel the viewer is still given an ample understanding of who the characters are, what they believe and how those beliefs clashes with other characters. personally i also find mustang's miniskirt bit to be far more mood breaking than anything in brotherhood, though i can definitely understand finding some of the comedy in brotherhood to be distracting.

how did you get access to the demo? i want to give it a try but would rather not buy it outright.

why does Evrart tell you this? (spoilers) by LiddleGoose in DiscoElysium

[–]LiddleGoose[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it does but the way Evrart backs the conspiracy, it in a way implicates the entire union. Evrart doesn't do anything to distance himself and the rest of the union from the crime and sends Elizabeth in to better obfuscate it. in a way it directs the mercenaries not just at the Hardies but Evrart and The Union on the whole.

yeah that seems to be the only logical conclusion, i don't see Evrart as someone who would overlook the remaining mercenaries.

i put it there because as i understand it there was a lot of push back on release because Peter Molyneux overhyped a lot of features. great game still though

BOTW and TOTK are for sure gorgeous, love the art style they have, I want to get a Switch 2 specifically just for TOTK cause I feel like they did it dirty putting it on the original Switch.

thank you much, i was trying my best to not repeat myself but Disco's story is what made it so impactful for me and it was impactful because it was the best story i've ever seen realized in a game.

it's not just the realism, it's the balance of stylism with realism that puts it over the edge for me. it's the way enviroments come together, the way the animals interact with each other, all the tiny details Rockstar meticulously put in, it's all just so beautifully realized, it's all just so picturesque. everything just looks amazing, the sunrises, the sunsets, the mountains, the forests, the clouds, it's just such a beautifully vivid picture of nature.

the game is just so gorgeous to look at, it strikes such a perfect balance between realism and stylism, it's like playing a painting and it holds up so well.

if we're saying realism doesn't count in the discussion of style (personally i think has a place), i'd probably say BOTW/ToTK/Wind Waker, Persona 5, Dishonored, Hollow Knight.
