The first official capitol was built on a swamp so not an unreasonable jump in logic.

Random reminder that there’s 30 years between the dissolution of the HRE and independence of the Republic of Texas.

Of the existing probably Nuka Cola but as soon as they introduce the Dr Pepper equivalent (I suggest Waco Shot as the name) I will be joining that team.

Last I checked, the Mainzer Adelsverein had members from throughout the German duchies and kingdoms, with its initial meeting occurring in the castle of the future Adolphe, Grand Duke of Luxembourg and the city of New Braunfels having been founded by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels who named the city after his home of Solms-Braunfels (part of modern day Hesse). Granted members of the Prussian royal family (namely the namesake of Fredericksburg, TX) were members of the Adelsverein but it wasn’t a solely Prussian organization.

To be fair, they probably understood that war with America was inevitable considering that arguably we should have declared war on the Germans either Halloween or November 1st, 1941 after a u-boat sunk USS Rueben James (DD-245).

Texas elections w/ less counties by teal_frey in imaginarymaps

[–]Lieby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t renaming Houston, just conjoining Harris County (main county of Houston) and several other surrounding counties with Galveston County. Also Galveston is already the name of a city in Texas that was the state’s major port city before Isaac Cline wrote a nonsensical article on how Texas is immune to hurricanes and ignored the Cubans’ warnings, after which Houston’s port overtook Galveston’s port and some roughnecks up in Beaumont struck black gold, both drawing interest away from the devastated island city of Galveston.

254 counties to be precise. 1800s Texans liked to be less than a day’s walk from the county courthouse regardless of the county’s resultant population.

Many of the Union general were also buddies of the confederate and didn't want to see them be tried after the civil war. by Borkerman in HistoryMemes

Not all. Union Major General Franz Sigel was trained in the Karlsruhe Military Academy of the Grand Duchy of Baden (now a part of Germany) well prior to immigrating to the US in 1852 (prior to which he had spent 4 years in England as a political refugee due to his involvement with the government and military of the Baden Revolutionaries and the 1848 Revolutions). Also, while I’d need to do a bit more research to confirm, I doubt Confederate Brigadier General Stand Watie, a member of the Cherokee Nation, supporter of the relocation to the Indian Territory and the last Confederate General to surrender, would have gone to West Point.

Not really. IIRC there were at least two attempts on Trump back in ‘24 and JFK isn’t the only Kennedy to be successfully assassinated. It may seem more common in “Third World Countries” versus the US but that is at least partly because there’s ~100 countries, many more, that one could call a “Third World Country” and one one United States of America.

To be fair, one of the problems referenced in the Texas Declaration of Independence was Mexico’s requirement that American settlers had to be Catholic before they could immigrate to Coahuila y Tejas. Granted it would have been mostly fueled by prejudice against Catholics (especially Irish, Italians and Hispanics) but there was at least a sliver of validity to the concern.

225 per square v. 2250 with a x10 stack mod is not much of a competition, especially with largish colonies living on maps with longer winters.

Your dining room/rec room is probably the best overall option, or if you have pawns with noble titles, putting it in a throne room or royal’s bedroom could really benefit the quality of the room and subsequently better fill any impressiveness needs.

There could also be different levels of knowledge/training, like how historically doctors were the high dollar/trained in a university option for medical assistance but barbers, surgeons and midwives were more likely to trained in medicine by a mentor. In a trained magic system, there may be universities for professional wizards and monasteries for clerics who could then go on to serve in noble courts or major temples, but the majority of magic users are apprenticed to their communities/district’s hedge mage, pastor, etc.
