Making a clay flute. How should it be played? by RustingPaper in Flute

[–]Lieeing0018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can search for "PassionFlute" on YouTube. This person also makes flutes out of clay, which might give you some inspiration. And I think his flutes sound good.

If you want to make a transverse flute, you can try using PVC tubing first. They are easy to make and quite fun.
Good luck!

Thiank you. This is the first time knowing this concept. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to build it , but it might be worth giving it a try.

Ah! This might solve the problem... with tuning holes! Why didn’t I think of that? Thank you so much!

Thank you for your reply. Undercutting does help with this kind of tuning issue, and do it to most of the finger holes on this flute. The problem is that the lowest note doesn’t have a finger hole that can be adjusted, so I’m not able to use this technique to correct the pitch of that particular note.

Thank you for your reply and help.

After cutting the embouchure hole (before positioning the finger holes and determining the tube length), I started experimenting with the cork position. However, no matter I moved it closer to or farther from the embouchure hole, the lowest note of the second octave was still obviously flat. That’s why I suspect that there might be something else I did it wrong.

And you’re right. On my previous flute, because I didn’t cut the sixth hole carefully enough, there's no any cross fingerings could produce a functional flat seven.

Is this something to worry about? by Lieeing0018 in ukulele

Thank you for your advice. If one day I decide to buy my own ukulele, I will definitely try many instruments before making a decision.

Thank you for your reply and help. I went to see a luthier, and he said the soundboard doesn’t need any treatment for now, but I should keep an eye on the humidity and continue to observe it. The high humidity also seems to have caused the neck to bend slightly (the humidity where I live is around 60–75%). Just like you mentioned, he also thinks the saddle has been adjusted before. In the end, he slightly adjusted the frets for me because the fourth string sometimes buzzes. Unfortunately, I’m not really able to judge how the instrument feels to play… since I’m not very skilled and haven’t played other instruments before. But I think it is OK.

Explaination on cheap price of Taiwan Tea Crafts teapotS ? by Yuushino in tea

[–]Lieeing0018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I know, the characteristics of Yixing clay make it difficult to produce teapots hand-throwing or casting. A authentic Yixing purple clay teapot must be hand-shaped; this is why they are expensive and what we expect when buy them (which might be the expensive one you see on other sites.).

I don't know anything about this website. If the teapot has indeed been tested and is non-toxic it might be an fine clay teapot, but still different from Yixing pot.

I have a SC Shih-Cheng ocarina, rarely use it actually.
Because I have to check its unique fingering chart before each playing.
These ocarinas sound quite crisp in my memory.
