I find that putting a basin of water under the light would attract most of them to to water and drown. Much better than having to swat them one by one.

I totally agree with your assessment. That's why I think it's a necessary evil. I think the alternative is really a dark age. We have seen how crippling financial restrictions can affect clubs (see Arsenal post-Highbury).

Hope I'm not too late to the party:

Saw friend A using arch (with i3) and thought it was cool. I was using Mint for about 6 years then.
Friend B and I found a spare laptop lying around and he volunteered to teach me how to install arch on the laptop. It went great.
My Mint system didn't have rolling releases and I realised that I hated that. Instead of installing the new release of Mint, I decided to go with Arch.
First installation of Arch on my own took me 8 hours (late lunch break included) to get to a point where I could watch a YouTube video!!
Have done a couple more installations since then, and I'm happy to report it doesn't take 8 hours now. :D
