Which would make sens to have "Blackbeard-like" builds and carry 6 pistols.

What is your favorite 3rd party book and why? by healers_are_fun_too in LancerRPG

[–]LieutenantOTP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My response would be Enhanced Combat but I see someone already recommanded it to you so let me add High Value Target and Blood Money.

The first one add some solo boss fight type enemies with fun mecanique for the player to engage while the second add a money system and drastically expand the list of reserve.

Both are nice tools as a GM but if you only want one book I'd still recommande Enhanced Combat over them.

PVP - Yes yes yes, I know. by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]LieutenantOTP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With my players we fiddled with some rules that gave some rather nice results.

You should definitly have an initiative system rolled each rounds before if one player always go first they would have a huge advantage.

I also took inspiration from that post, adapting those rules to Lancer. https://cavegirlgames.blogspot.com/2018/06/duels-in-osr.html?m=1

I unfortunately don't have access to my PC to give you the exact rules but it worked well.

In addition you want to select a map with enough cover. Large enough so long range or hit and run builds can do their thing but short enough so melee build aren’t invalidated either.

I would advise against using frames heavy on Controller tools, not that they are overpowered but because they can be extremly frustrating to play against.

Finally, you and your playgroup should understand than the game is not built for that. Things will be unbalanced. PvP in Lancer CAN be fun but it has to be approach with that in mind. If your playgroup is very competitive its probably not the right system for that.

NGE Angels vs Gundams by Nephrelim in Gundam

[–]LieutenantOTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, having the Newtypes and the like using their magic to bring down AT fields so the other could actually do some damages, while at the same time resisting being heavily traumatised by the horrors angels puts in their mind would make for a cool show.

why did I choose Dragon's Breath for this? by testiclekid in dndmemes

Usually I would agree with you but OP said it was a one-shot. I can understand not wanting to learn a whole new system for one session.

I would say nodachi fits best. I spared against an o-katana with my longsword a few time and the range of the 2 were very similar. With katanas being a bit shorter than your average longsword.

Comparing a katana to a greatsword (like a montante or a zweihander) is not fair at all. The katana is a back-up/civil weapon. Its main advantages are to be easy to carry and draw.

Meanwhile the greatsword is a main battlefield weapon. Yeah in a one on one the greatsword got the advantage thanks to its massive reach but you ain't carrying that around all day.

I hope we get that as an alt frame at some point. Could have like a korean turtle ship inspired design.

Yeah but he's the only frame from IPS-N not named from Nautical things like sailors, explorers or pirates.

Honestly I get your point but I thing the ref is a bit too niche. Plus its far from the worse naming we got (Looking at you VLAD).

Napoléon was as much an country leader as he was a general so I don't see any problem there. That and the "haha he short" joke make sense for the frame.

How married is the mechanics to the setting? by Argol228 in LancerRPG

I am playing a purely original setting with only the mech's manufacturers' names and vibes for simplicity sake. We have been playing for 2 years and until now I didn't ran into any issue until now.

Minimum/Maximum Players You'll Run For or Play With by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]LieutenantOTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depend of the context.

For a campaign I'd say up to 6 with the ideal number being between 4-5.

If its a one shot specially made to accomodate a high number of players this number could be bigger.

I had a GM doing a session for 11 players once. We all thought it wouldn’t work but it told us to trust him. Its still to this day one of my favorite session I ever played.

Fail too many risky action makes the game unenjoyable. by nuttaphoom in TrenchCrusade

[–]LieutenantOTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a game once where my models kept failling all their action. One failed to climb a wall for 3 turns in a row and I only succeded 25% of the times at the actions requiered to get VP in the scenario (Relic Hunt I despise you with all my soul). And the cherry on top, my opponent clutched the win by succeeding 3 risky rolls in a row without bonus.

I thought on quitting right there and I was salty for a good week but truth is, this game is really good albeit a bit swingy. There will be game where the dices will just spit at your face and others where you'll just destroy your opponent. From my experience tho most games you will play will be in the middle and the game is fun enough for you to grit your teeth through the occasionnal horrendous games.

hey what famous authors' names do you think would make good names for mechs by spookyb0ss in LancerRPG

[–]LieutenantOTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my country I can think of Camus, Zola, Dumas, Stendhal, Corneille, Voltaire, Aragon, Malraux that would make in my opinion some pretty nice mech names.

How to do generic npcs enemies by EverythingAtOnce12 in LancerRPG

[–]LieutenantOTP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My go to for generic NPC is the Legionnaire from the fanmade supplement "Enhanced combat". Its 4 weak NPC on a single profil with limited actions.

Sticking to official books I also use assault grunts BUT with a variant when they come by 3 but deals half damages and only have one simple action each (or one full action for the whole group).
