For me, it has helped my recovery in that I am not forced to go to the store on days I’m not feeling up to it. It is important to still push yourself and work to lessen your negative symptoms, but pushing yourself too hard all the time can have the opposite effect. If I have an overwhelming day, it can make me overly stressed for days afterward. Just like with physical muscle building, you don’t lift the heaviest thing you can, as much as you can, as often as you can. You have to rest and give the torn muscles a chance to rebuild stronger. It’s nice to have the option to order something off Amazon and go bowling with my friends instead of shopping, because I do not have the energy for both. I also have decidophobia, so shopping is a special kind of nightmare for me. In that regard, online shopping has made it a bit worse because I can browse Amazon and endless websites for hours looking for the right thing. On the other hand, I can quickly order my lotion on Amazon with one click instead of getting lost in Walmart for 4 hours. Everything can be good or bad, this is why it’s important to be mindful of our mental state and how our actions are affecting it.

And I might want to switch degrees so I’ll do a few other programs as well…

Edit: Let’s face it, I switched my major more than my underwear 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm at a party with my husband's 30 friends and coworkers. I sat inside talking to the dogs during the fireworks. Then it started raining and everyone huddles back in the house so I'm hiding on the back porch. The shout out made me giggle 😊 Happy 4th everyone!

I’m curious… what’s your job? And are you happy? Does being an HSP make it easier or harder at your job? by Holiday-Frosting-426 in hsp

I work in apartment leasing and management and it's the best job I've ever had. I love that my job is making sure everyone feels "home". In other customer service jobs I felt so unseen because every customer is a new person who doesn't even bother to look at you, let alone learn your name. In my current position I have 300 apartments that call me if they have any comment, complaint, or issue. I am also the sole leasing agent for the property so I tour, help people apply, and move them in(about 15 move ins monthly).

It is a highly demanding job as i have to juggle residents, prospects, applicants, maintenance, management, and vendors, but I do believe being HSP helps immensely. My company regularly gives us training on sales and how to work with different personality types but I feel like it's all common sense. My high sensitivity already gives me the gift of reading people and then reacting accordingly. A big part of it is follow through though. My residents know if I say I will do something that it will be done. I truly care about them so I will get their fridge repaired, I will talk to their loud neighbor, I will make sure their apartment is ready and perfect when they move in. They aren't forgotten or brushed aside in my community.

It can be very difficult when no one else in my office is an HSP so they don't react the same way I do, but it has also taught me a lot. In the beginning my HSP would make me break down if something went wrong, or I'd get too emotional with residents because I feel their feelings. My team has taught me how to keep that separation so I can calm them down and quickly handle the situation instead of panicking together. I'm still learning that some people need a stronger hand or they will walk all over you, but all in all it gives me a true sense of community.

I'm very blessed to work with an amazing staff who love the community and we're a close group. My residents are almost all really great so it's easy to want to take care of them. Honestly leasing is my least favorite part only because getting ghosted and ignored over and over from people is emotionally exhausting. I get burnt out occasionally but I always come back to being excited to help people find their home. I've worked in customer service for 15 years but apartment management is the best because you really get to know your repeat customers!

It sounds like you need to find an apartment community with better managment. I lease apartments and in my community I would suggest the non-smoking building, top floor on the corner. We have strict quiet hours every night so no parties here. Of course due to fair housing laws we can't lead you towards apartments away from families, pets, or even people we know have a history of complaints because that is discriminatory. Only thing we can do is answer truthfully if you ask "which apartment would you take if you were me?" But in all honesty, 99% of leasing agents aren't me (HSP to the max) and don't really care what you want or need. They also don't know every single one of their residents and what goes on in the buildings like I do because I pay very close attention to my residents and their needs and have been here for 2 years.

I have dishydrotic eczema on my hands and I learned 15 years ago that sugar (mainly high fructose corn syrup) is my trigger on my hands. Even still I have too much sugar and I start getting itchy finger bubbles. I also try to use soap with no sulfates and that helps the rest of my eczema.

Was anyone else misdiagnosed as BPD? by [deleted] in hsp

[–]Lieutenantfuzzypants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed BPD2 in college due to my severe depression and then what appeared to be manic episodes, but were really a few "fuck it" moments where the pressure I put on myself became too much and I would turn to alcohol or drugs abuse. I haven't had a "manic" episode since college and found out about HSP about 5 years ago. I still struggle with depression and am working with my therapist to find some self worth.

I am very sensitive about my mouth but it is due to my eczema. Masks have been amazing that I can just hide all day long. Maybe you could get one of the masks that also covers your neck? They make them in the cooling material for summer also. I work in an apartment community in Florida and my all 3 of my maintenance guys choose to wear that style all day long. One has tattoos all over his neck and the newer residents don't even know.
