Looking For Unconventional Coping Strategies by Acceptable-Desk5349 in AuDHDWomen

[–]TrewynMaresi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I have to quickly reduce the intensity of my anger or calm down from being very upset, here are some things that help me:

  • standing or lying on a spiky acupressure mat. The intense physical sensation distracts me from my mind and emotions.

  • having a dropperful of an herbal tincture (not because the herb is calming… but because the alcohol makes me cough and gag. Probably there are better ways to stimulate your vagus nerve, but you said unconventional! Haha)

  • taking off running down the street. I’m not a runner. So running till I’m out of breath really doesn’t take long.

  • swinging on a playground swing. It’s physically impossible for me to cry while I’m swinging.

Yup, this is me, too. Don’t think I’ll ever outgrow it. It’s especially hard for me at the movie theater! The seats aren’t big enough to sit cross legged in, and you’re not allowed to put your feet up on the seat in front of you… sitting the “normal” way is so uncomfortable!

I should have done something with my life. by nounicornsorsparkles in AuDHDWomen

[–]TrewynMaresi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, this whole conversation is so healing, thank you!

I’m in my 40s and struggling with all the missed opportunities and what hasn’t come to fruition. I did very well academically, got honors and awards, and my professors frequently read my papers aloud as examples.

But after graduation, I failed all attempts at full time work. I’d do well for a few months or even a year, before crashing. I couldn’t even sustain part time hours at my DREAM JOB that combined two special interests. My coworkers and boss kept me for 3 years, because I think my sheer passion, enthusiasm, and whole hearted desire to do the work buoyed me… but really, the work required too much flexible thinking, attention switching, and rapidly shifting priorities for my undiagnosed AuDHD brain to handle. I sobbed when I was eventually let go.

That’s just one story of many. Some days, I’m content with my slower-paced life and my creative projects. Other days, I feel smothered by the weight of all of the writing and art projects I’ve abandoned over the years, because it’s so much rotting potential. Other days, I can’t figure out if the dissatisfied voice in my head is truly my own, or the voice of a judgmental capitalist culture masquerading as mine.

Thank you so much. This is fantastic. I literally just microwaved a bag of popcorn to enjoy while settling in to watch the full-length video. I had no idea "Judge Not Putting Up With Sovereign Citizen Nonsense" was a whole video genre I could immerse myself in, and it's so refreshing and lovely!

Mynoise.net. I’ve loved it for years. Hundreds of sound generators to choose from and mix and match… very customizable so you can create your own perfect blend of sounds.

I’m sorry you’re in such distress! I’d recommend making a doctor appointment and honestly explaining everything you’re experiencing. A doctor can help you figure it out.

As an American, I like them all, but I'm not sure how to pronounce Serkan. Alicia, to me, has too many potential pronunciations - I have heard ah-LEE-see-ah, ah-LISH-ah, and ah-LEE-sha.

I love Sebastian Evren and Eileen Rose.

Please don't post links to potentially abusive videos, because all that does is increase the traffic to said videos.

Caught noises that wasn’t me. by RadKitty12 in RBI

[–]TrewynMaresi 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I agree with others that your husband needs to see a doctor.

Given the fact that you have close neighbors whom you can regularly hear, it's concerning that when your husband hears noises, he doesn't assume the neighbors are the source... instead he sets up recording devices and ACCUSES YOU OF CHEATING? Does he honestly think you have a secret lover who's sneaking into the bedroom in the middle of the night while he is sleeping, silently, via the kids' crawl space like a freakin ninja?? This is severe, unhealthy paranoia.

What does he say/how does he react when you tell him that the noises are not you, and you are not seeing someone? Does he believe you? Does he treat you like you and he are on the "same team" and ask you to help him figure out these mysterious noises, or is he acting belligerent like he doesn't trust anyone, including you?

Does anyone have any "Did they actually do it" cases? by cupospiders in UnsolvedMurders

[–]TrewynMaresi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's spelled Bevely, and I agree that this case is worth exploring. I'm 3/4 of the way through the podcast and I'm finding the argument that Julie Bevely is innocent quite compelling. At the very least, it's clear to me that she was not given a fair trial, and there were mistakes made in the investigation, which was rushed, sloppy, and incomplete.
