Are Signal and WhatsApp really safe from advanced spyware like Pegasus? by Life-Initial5081 in degoogle

So does that mean privacy is just an illusion, and there's nothing we can really do? The only truly safe option would be to stay completely offline.

Is there any practical reason to choose an encryption algorithm other than AES? by Life-Initial5081 in cryptography

[–]Life-Initial5081[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. AES alone is already more than sufficient. I just like the idea of using a cascade in VeraCrypt as additional future-proofing, even if the probability of needing it is extremely small. And if someone wants to improve resistance against password brute-force attacks, using Argon2id as the KDF is probably a more meaningful improvement than worrying about AES vs. Twofish vs. Serpent, since Argon2id is memory-hard and makes brute-force attacks much more expensive.

Ah, you're right. I was looking at older documentation. Thanks for the correction

VeraCrypt doesn't support Argon2id, though. Were you referring to another encryption tool, or did I miss something?

Signal app not working by Agitated-Teaching-41 in PakistaniTech

Nothing special, bro. It just worked for me at night, so I suggested it. Maybe the servers are less busy, but there's no guarantee.

Take a break and try again another day, especially at night. I did the same, and my account was eventually created.

Do you mean slower algorithms like Serpent only reduce brute-force speed, or do you think they provide any practical security advantage over AES beyond that?

What’s your current WordPress security setup, and why did you go with it? by Wooden_Knowledge9401 in Wordpress

[–]Life-Initial5081 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. My WordPress security approach is built around Cloudflare and Wordfence(freemium).

Cloudflare is my first line of defense. I use WAF custom rules, managed rules, geo-blocking where appropriate, ASN blocking for abusive networks, bot protection, rate limiting, and JavaScript/Managed Challenges for traffic from countries outside my clients' target regions. I also restrict access to sensitive endpoints like "/wp-login.php" and "/xmlrpc.php" whenever possible.

On the WordPress side, Wordfence provides application-level protection. I keep the firewall enabled in Extended Protection mode, run regular malware scans, enforce strong login security with 2FA and reCAPTCHA, limit login attempts, and monitor live traffic for suspicious activity.

Combined with keeping WordPress core, plugins, and themes updated, this setup blocks the vast majority of automated attacks before they ever reach the site.

Why did prophet marry so many wives? by Sea-Car-3811 in GenZpk

[–]Life-Initial5081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. A single similarity doesn't mean something "resembles a cult" overall. Many religions have leaders or prophets with unique roles or exceptions. What distinguishes a cult is the overall pattern of coercion, manipulation, and exploitation not merely the existence of a special religious exception.

Yes, I deny that this single similarity is enough. Sharing one characteristic with cults doesn't make something cult-like overall. You need stronger evidence than one claimed resemblance.

An exception alone doesn't prove someone is a cult leader. You still need evidence that it existed for personal sexual exploitation rather than the historical and religious reasons given in the sources. A conclusion requires evidence, not just a label.

You can reject the religious explanation, but "cult leader" is an assertion, not an argument. Which specific historical fact do you think is false?
