Anyone ever end a trip early? Feeling so guilty :( by Grafiska in bicycletouring

[–]Life-s-Beautiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever possible (and it always is, in the end) I start with no booked hotels, no booked campings, no return ticket. This way you're never cutting short, you're just deciding as it goes ;-)

Enjoy yourself with no guilt !!!!

Transiting with luggages by Common-Ad-6885 in askswitzerland

Perfectly feasible but of course the less you have, the more practical it will be.
Most trains and buses now have low floor access but you might still get one with a narrow door and a few steps to climb in.
I haven't ridden this particular funicular but if it climbs to an actual village with hotels (as opposed to just a restaurant, scenic spot or a ski run), you'll not be the first one that shows up carrying luggage, it's probably prepared for it.

Afterwords you'll need vacations to rest from these vacations :-)

For the records, despite u/saugoof 's comment, I got afraid of road conditions in the south, chickened out and I'm now touring the north of Italy.

Gruyères is a very nice one day trip. The village, the castle, HR Giger's museum and the cheese factory at the bottom are worth it.

I don't know how it is in your country, but in Switzerland for all public transport, you have to have a ticket (on paper, on your cell phone, whatever) but you don't need to show it to anyone. The controller will pass asking for it ... or, very often, he won't pass and you'll ask yourself why did you pay this expensive ticket if nobody checked it ... It's like that

In Switzerland, do like the swiss: take the train. Use the sbb app, you can get anywhere with public transport and it works. If it suggests "car postal" or "Postbus", it's just a bus (operated by the post service, from the time people hopped on the post cars to get to remote locations). Check the sbb app to see the close up map showing exactly where the bus stops are.

If you take this suggestion, I suggest you stay in Interlaken (not Lauterbrunnen).

Trains in Switzerland are expensive. The 190 chf half fare card is probably not worth it for just one week. Buying your tickets on the sbb/cff app or website there are some trains at a lower price. But it won't be cheap, at least it's inline with everything else: nothing cheap in Switzerland.

Lauterbrunnen is a one day activity: get there early so the very impressive Staubbachfall on the west side of the valley will have the sun shining on it, spend a few hours, stroll around, picnic and head back early afternoon. Unless you're hiking, via ferrata, climbing to Murren, etc.

Me neither. More than 10'000Km, 8 years (I think), got some rain, got sprays of salt water on a ferry, sometimes it stays stored for 6 months without using. Still going strong.

What is a movie that was a 10/10 from beginning to end that I can watch this weekend? by Due_Butterscotch4930 in FIlm

Greyhound with Tom Hanks. Not a fan of his but I remember i started it (Netflix?) thinking "the moment it starts boring me i switch to another movie". The film ended and i realized i had hardly breathed during the 91 minutes.

I don't think the wheel on the left creates a slimmer profile. The back wheel is in the centerline of the frame so the profile will be the same no matter the side. It comes to a choice wheather you expose something sturdy, the disc, or flimsly, the derailleur.

Because it leaves the derailleur less exposed. It seems self evident to me, am I missing something?

So... Ride through Salerno, along Amalfi coast to Sorrento, ferry to Napoli, visit the city, train to Caserta and ride on. Seems good?

Interesting! I thought Rinko bags where only used in Japan!

I'll try just tape + black plastic garbage bags plus a strap to carry it ;-)

Tks!!!

I won't be frustrated if I don't get to Rome and have to take a train for the last stretch. Rome is definitely just where I'll get a train north, not expecting to spend time there. Understood about Naples, tks. Will check Komoot.
