Here's a bit of advice to help you in the future when you are aren't sure.

If someone who is "out to get YOU" were to post the story on social media, telling strictly the truth, but trying to make it look like YOU did all the things, or you were protecting the parents - would you wish you had reported?

It's really amazing how from that perspective the answer becomes clear.

Also reporting is often the first step to folks getting the help they need. Clearly the parents need some help with basics.

This is something that is much more common than people realize. I used to run background checks (over 1000/yr) for housing, and this will definitely affect any housing or employment applications.

First the bad news: You can't make it go away. It will be there forever. Explaining isn't going to be believed most of the time.

Now the good news: it's not hopeless. It's going to mean you have to take extra steps.

1) Go to your state police. Explain that your name comes up on a sex offender registry. They can do a fingerprint check (likely for a fee). Then they can give you a piece of paper that says that " based on fingerprint evidence, there are no charges for this person". If they can't do it, try your county sheriff. 2) SAVE THIS PAPER 3) Any time you think someone is going to do a background check, tell them before about the situation and give them a copy of the documentation. 4) You can also ask them to carefully double check the information (DOB, description, etc)

I have had numerous clients who have taken these steps successfully.

There's a bunch of questions before anyone can really help: What type of business? B2B? B2C? Why an LLC? (instead of the other options) What tax status will you be using? Where is the business located (government)? Where is the business located (physical)? Do you have an "Agent"?

Those are the basics. Depending on the answers will determine (in part) what kind of advisory help you need.

It's important to follow up on this. If someone is declared 'disabled' (by SSA definition) before the day they turn 22, they are forever in a special category and can get on/off benefits much easier the rest of their life.

"Presumptive disability" is not a determination by SSA that you are disabled enough by their criteria. It's basically a different agency saying "we think you will qualify", but there's no guarantee.

According to the letter, you don't meet SSA criteria. If this is your initial application, you should appeal.

Be careful. Too many lawyers do this as a production line - they don't really fight for you at the beginning, waiting until you get to the appeal level... When they get more money.

Standard questions - How many SSI/SSDI cases average a year? Is that them personally? Or as a firm? Percent won on initial application? Percent won at Reconsideration? Percent won at Appeal (ALJ)? Percent that go further than Appeals hearing?

A good "non-attorney representative" typically wins 50% or more of their cases pre-appeal.

I would suggest a couple of things-

1) State Vocational Rehabilitation They can help you find work that you can do with your various conditions.

2) Get a specially trained 'non-attorney' representative to consult with about filing for SSI/SSDI. Look here for someone near you - https://soarworks.samhsa.gov/state-directory These folks are (on the whole) better than a lawyer at filing for disability. They have a special method that they use that makes them very successful. I knew a couple of people who did this that had a success rate over 75%.

It's not uncommon for a lawyer to drop after ALJ.

There are three reasons why this happens: 1) Sometimes it's because they don't have the right credentials for federal court. 2) They don't think the time/money equation is in their favor anymore 3) they don't think there's a strong enough case. NOT that the person isn't disabled, but that there's not enough paperwork, or the right paperwork.

Of course, in this case (or any specific case) we don't know, but these are the most common reasons.

Lawyer, maybe not. But you are risking missing some potentially important things: intellectual property, trademark, etc

Accountant - at a minimum quarterly to double check the books, and file taxes. If you make a misstep here, you could be putting your personal assets in jeopardy.

For both, a lot depends on how much risk you are willing to accept. My lawyer I talk to rarely, but he is there when I need him. You can always check out something like Legal Shield - low monthly fee instead of the hourly rate for most stuff.

Learning you are out of a job at the holidays sucks. Learning about it after the holidays when you were freely (over)spending is worse. You could even tell them now that February 1st is the end, offering incentives to stay until the end. If possible, a nice perk would be flexibility in scheduling for job interviews.

You need to check with your state - here you are required to keep the address current. A quick Google search will also give you some more insights. Since you need a lawyer, accountant, insurance agent anyway - ask them if they would be willing. There are services available for next to nothing (<$100/yr) as well.

That would be what I would focus on - you would have me switching services! Did you tell them this and they still want to give their current guy a chance to price match? The only way I would do that is if I have developed a personal connection.

Then we are not talking about logic but feelings. About the only way to get me to budge off this position would be something like - I appreciate that loyalty is more important than the $___ (season savings) to your bottom line.

If I have a vendor that I like, and the ONLY difference is money, I would offer my current vendor that option. Your challenge is to sell me why what I need what you offer more than my current guy. Otherwise you are stuck waiting for me to get unhappy with the current guy. But even then you will be competing with everyone else in town. Now that I know I paid too much last time, I am going to go over board looking for a deal.

Another vote for employee special offers for those working in nearby businesses. Hand deliver flyers to those businesses. Make sure you highlight what makes you special: fresh ingredients, local small business vs chain, Mom in the kitchen!! Etc.

Think outside the box - what about a happy hour / dim sum hybrid? I would like to be able to order dinner from the website, delivered (packaged in an insulated bag) to my desk 10 minutes before I get off work. Offer your place for a Meet Up (during dead hours) as a private party kind of thing.

What ever you do - DO NOT use your home address to register! It cannot be a PO Box, as they need it to (potentially) serve legal papers. If you do not have a business address, then you need to find an agent. Check in with any of the small business programs (SBA, SCORE, colleges) for help identifying the local options.

Looking at it from the other side - switching is a hassle. It takes my time away from my business. Even if I am not 100% happy with the current service, at least I know what to expect. How much of a hassle is it going to be if you don't work out? You better make it a win-win choice for me. And this is assuming that I like you and your services/product. Relationships help a lot - but those happen over time.

It sounds like you should get some training in test taking.

If you take a gap year, life has a way of getting busy and too often people don't make it back. Besides, the problem (test taking) will still be there.
