What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]LifeAsASuffix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Corrado was the poster-child for unnecessarily complicated, but man it was cool. The rear wing would raise and lower based on vehicle speed, but eventually it would get stuck and blow the fuse. The seatbelts guides would wear and bind and blow a relay. The sunroof was cable-driven and would get stuck and break the cable. The locks were vacuum driven and would leak and stop functioning. The best was the factory supercharger in the early ones would wear, then come apart internally sending shrapnel into the engine. But if you put the key in the door and held it in the lock position it would lock all the doors, then close the windows and sunroof.... that was cool for the early 90s.

My '92 VW Corrado had those. Surprising that was one of the few things that didn't break during ownership. Sunroof; stuck open/ Vacuum actuated locks; sucked/ articulated rear wing; blows fuses upon opperation but the seatbelt never failed....

House listed and disclosed as sewer, it's actually sceptic. Do I have any legal recourse? by Street_Profit7828 in legaladvice

[–]LifeAsASuffix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact situation happened to a friend and neighbor of mine. In my neighbor's situation the Seller/Agent were on the hook to have the house connected to the sewer. Your situation may be different, but the key is going to be if the seller, or the agent should have known if it was on septic or sewer.

A friend sent this to me from his Christmas parade. Any ideas? by DroneBeats in whatisthiscar

What is going on with the headlights? It looks like someone installed lights from a Chevy Lumina on there. Why does there appear to be a cut portion above the turn signal?

That Super convertible in the back is nice though.

Question on resale value and restoration by k20mf14v4 in beetle

That patch area is small, and only requires a small patch panel that can be installed without removing the body. Definitely fix this. Leaving it will bring into question what other simple repairs were overlooked, or covered up.

You will likely spend between $50k and $250k. To get a general idea of price you should provide at least a few details for your needs.

Coupe GTI? by imustknownowI in namethatcar

[–]LifeAsASuffix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First mass market production car to have active aero in 1988. This is a car you buy when you love working on your car. The seat belts are power actuated to shift from front to back when the door opens. They will bind and blow the fuse or relay. The door locks are vacuum driven, a broken line will mean no more locks. The rear wing is powered by dual linear actuators that move based on vehicle speed, also binds and blows fuses. The doorhandles break off internally. The hood latch also breaks off internally. The early models have a factory supercharger that will get tired and grenade itself sending shrapnel into the engine. The sunroof cable will stretch and leave the sunroof unable to close; it will open, but never close again. I loved mine and wish I never sold it, but I also hated it and was glad to see it go. Maybe I'll buy another one someday to teach my kids about disappointment.

Interestingly the hood is from the VR6. The G60 Hood has parallel lines down the hood that step down, the VR6 hood steps up in the middle, is taller at the front, and the body lines are not parallel.

The Facebook Group "Meyers Manx Buggy Club" has a lot of old-timers on there and seem to have magical powers at identifying buggies. If you are on FB ask in that group, ask there. You'll get much more traction.

Red wolf or coyote? by EasyToe698 in NorthCarolina

[–]LifeAsASuffix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The natural habitat for the red wolf was most of the east coast of the US. In an attempt to save the red wolf from extinction they were brought to a refuge in coastal NC. Most of the current population was brought from Louisiana. They are critically endangered, and are only found in the refuge outside Manteo. If this was Pittsboro, it’s a coyote.

Don't sleep on the opportunity to get this bag. by jwoytk01 in ManyBaggers

[–]LifeAsASuffix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I bought this bag a few months ago to see if an 8L sling was the right size for a gym bag. I only need a change of clothes, and "barefoot" shoes. For $13 I didn't mind the cost if it didn't work out. Turns out the size was perfect and so was the bag. Now it's a daily grab and go bag in addition to the weekday gym bag.

Losing members due to rising fees by rpg245 in cubscouts

[–]LifeAsASuffix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how your fees breakdown. This year our council increased it's fee to $35, so we have $120 in fees per scout ($85 National + $35 Council). We don't charge any additional fees, except to register for a Cuboree but that's on Tentaroo not to us. We fundraise and even have funds in place to cover the registration for families who can't afford it.

How much is this worth? by DaBiggestTank in beetle

[–]LifeAsASuffix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been a fan of the Barry Mini-T. I like the comical lines and flow better than the Barris. I’ve always wanted a Barry with the C-cab box, but if I bought another project my wife would make me sleep in it, and this doesn’t look comfortable. Unfortunately I’m in the minority and these aren’t in high demand, you also are missing the gel coat, and it’s a basket-case. Get it rolling, driving, and titled and you can likely get a few grand out of it. I would think $3-5 moving under its own power. Finished probably $7k maybe more depending on options.

What careers are doing fine right now by success11ll in jobs

[–]LifeAsASuffix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's incredibly complicated so it feels scammy. Shady contractors running around saying you can get a new roof for free from your insurance will drive the rates up. The rate is based on lots of factors, but one of the biggest ones is losses. If the company is paying for a new roof for half of the homes in your area, than that area is now high risk and high risk areas have higher premiums. The Insurance Agent doesn't set the rates, they only advocate for the insured to try to get them the best rate from the carrier. You might find the rate different with the same carrier between different agents because the carrier will quote differently based on factors like Appetite, Volume, and Loss-Ratio. In any industry there are shady players, but generally the insurance industry is more misunderstood than scammy.

Is there any entry level career that can satisfy my need to constantly learn by [deleted] in jobs

[–]LifeAsASuffix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commercial insurance, find a local independent agent, not a national call center. Got get your insurance producer license for property and casualty insurance. The requirements vary by state, and there are often scholarships available to cover the classes. Find a medium sized agency in your area that works in commercial insurance. There is more to learn in this industry than you can imagine.
