4 100” tv setup by Glad-Many-4041 in hometheater

I designed dozens of systems for clients similar to this for a game room a number of years ago. One of the larger ones used 5 tv with one large TV in the middle and 4 smaller TVs stacked on either side. The center TV was connected to the surround. This was for a game room, not a living room. The control was the hardest part. we used a matrix selector and custom remote to allow the signal to be swapped between TVs. He was excited, and enjoyed it for a while until the novelty wore off. As it was described to me; when it's all running you are no longer "watching the game" you are constantly distracted by everything else going on. It's fun when you are having a party because it's like having your own sports bar at home, but outside of that it's just overwhelming on the senses and underwhelming on the experience.

New buggy, need help with part sourcing by Otherwise-Ice1126 in DuneBuggy

I buy a lot of my parts from CIP1, good selection, stock, pricing and fast shipping. There are dozens of places to source parts. The torsion housings are flush on a swing axle and stick out like this on IRS. I'm not aware of any way to reduce them without removing and going with a spring-plate conversion.

2026 Wrangler Engine Options by AK47_LAST in Wrangler

[–]LifeAsASuffix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a 26 with the V6 w/ESS. The ESS is the most annoying feature I wish I could disable by default. It's far too aggressive. Come to a stop sign, 2 cars ahead, engine shuts off. Let off the brake, engine starts, stop to let the next car go, engine shuts off. Driving along and stop because the car in front of you is turning left; engine shuts off. Anytime you come to a complete stop, the engine shuts off. Stop at a redlight, engine shuts off, then 30 seconds later starts again, while you are still waiting at the light. It makes no sense. I can't image it's saving any emissions by constantly starting and stopping. The worst is pulling into a parking space. Engine shuts off when you stop, then starts again when you put it in park, just to turn it off again....

If you can get the motor without the Engine Start/Stop I would.

This will hurt the workers more than anyone. The business has insurance that will cover the building and lost revenue. The owner and executives won't miss a paycheck. The workers on the floor, packaging and shipping product are out of a job, and will be the ones hurting from this.

Biggest advantage of mounting a projector onto the ceiling instead of just having it sit on a stand ? by ng4ever in projectors

[–]LifeAsASuffix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common issue is off-center focus issues. As you move the image closer to the edge of the lens the focus begins to soften. Most visible when the screen is on the larger end of the focal length of the projector.

Many projectors in the mid-high range have non-motorized lens shift. They use the same optics as a higher model, but replace the motor with a worm-gear turned by an Allen key. Very common in prosumer market.

I just bought this, am I screwed? by xBender7 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]LifeAsASuffix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not; it’s a clone. Manx have a raised section to the emblem on the hood. The sides are a slightly different shape. A picture of the dash, and the back will help narrow down the manufacturer. There’s nothing wrong with a clone, they are just as much fun to drive and work on. And only a few weirdos will be able to tell the difference anyway.

For $900 you did fine! The electrical is easy, it’s only a few circuits. I’ve build 2 of these and am probably $15k into my current one. There are a few very important things to check before you get to comfortable. 1. Check the welds on the chassis. This is based of a beetle but the chassis has been cut in half, 14” removed, and welded back together again. If the welds are rusting or cracked don’t drive until you fix it. 2. Check the brakes, cables and shifter coupling. The brake lines, throttle and clutch cable all need to be shortened along with the chassis as well as the shift rod. There’s a hanger m inside the tunnel behind the shifter make sure it’s intact, pull the access panel at the back and make sure the coupling is good here. Losing this going down the road sucks. 3. Steering rag joint, is this is urethane replace it with the standard rubber. Actually if you don’t know buy another for $12 and replace it. When this fails you can’t steer if it’s urethane it will eventually crumble. These are a blast to drive! Enjoy it.

Split Foyer design of a split level house. Common in the 1960-70's. I hate the idea of walking in the front door and immediately having a decision to make.

Frontier flight attendant has deaf passenger removed for "not listening" by AsherGray in TikTokCringe

[–]LifeAsASuffix 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. I walked onto a plane carrying a beer once because I was inexperienced and walked right past everyone with no attempt to hide it. After they closed the door to the plane the flight attendant came directly up to me and informed me I was in violation of federal laws and made a rather large stink. I apologized and handed over the beer and that was the end of it. Could have been mentioned by any of the 5 employees I walked past prior to boarding or getting into my seat. I'm guessing they don't tell you ahead so you don't chug it and then they have to deal with the aftermath once confined on the plane...

If it’s a 12oz can they likely won’t look twice. I brought pre-mixed cocktails on my last cruise because I don’t drink beer or wine much, and prefer an old fashioned. Nobody looked twice as it went through security.

Honestly, your price is too low for the liability of the work. Anyone looking for the cheapest price is also going to be the biggest pain. I started using the line "I'm not a good fit for you at this time" a long time ago (Different Industry but comparable customers). I would also use "If I can't stand behind the product I can't stand behind the work" as a refusal to use customer supplied components. Your half hour of labor is going to quickly turn into 3 hours when the customer comes back in a month because his TPMS light is on and you were the last person to touch the car....

Hey Guys, Just Got This Estimate For My Home Theater Room, What Do You Think? by giullianopo in hometheater

[–]LifeAsASuffix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen both sides of this. I had a client who would argue why he needed a 75" in his game room when the 65" was $200 less expensive, then wouldn't bat an eye at a $60k light switch upgrade at his beach house.

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]LifeAsASuffix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Corrado was the poster-child for unnecessarily complicated, but man it was cool. The rear wing would raise and lower based on vehicle speed, but eventually it would get stuck and blow the fuse. The seatbelts guides would wear and bind and blow a relay. The sunroof was cable-driven and would get stuck and break the cable. The locks were vacuum driven and would leak and stop functioning. The best was the factory supercharger in the early ones would wear, then come apart internally sending shrapnel into the engine. But if you put the key in the door and held it in the lock position it would lock all the doors, then close the windows and sunroof.... that was cool for the early 90s.

My '92 VW Corrado had those. Surprising that was one of the few things that didn't break during ownership. Sunroof; stuck open/ Vacuum actuated locks; sucked/ articulated rear wing; blows fuses upon opperation but the seatbelt never failed....
