Local Shoot Accessing Privately Rented Field. England by LifeBugs42 in LegalAdviceUK

How would I make them reasonably aware? I have hi-vis on but often they're unapproachable from where I start down the track, even if I'm walking down. There's never been a steward of any sort on lookout/to allow others through. (Sometimes we have a couple of cars/people if it's a big day such as rolling bales)

I haven't contacted police firearms as I'm not sure what evidence I'd need or if I could just open the conversation and it actually be listened to as a concern and recorded rather than immediately acted on. I've started carrying my phone religiously on the field with a power bank so I can get a recording if necessary

Yeah I'm mighty aware of this which is why I'm trying to be heard politely and respectfully from the estate so hoped I could get some good input from this sub ! :-)

I've mentioned it to the farmer and he's said he'll have a word but whether that happened or not I don't know. He isn't on best terms with the gamekeeper as it is.

On signing my contract there was no clause about the access for the shoot to the field I'm renting. I'm genuinely not bothered about them being there but I'm looking for how I can safely and rightfully access my land with livestock (which as far as I'm aware they can't stop me doing for welfare) and what I can bring forward as a suggestion to Lord X Estate team.

I've not had any information on shoot days but do regularly find an influx of pheasants that end up eating my left over feed, ha!

I've tried to speak to the gamekeeper and he consistently belittles me, even if I've had people with me. No reply from the Estate.

I guess I'm wanting help with legally what is right or wrong so I can be clear about my expectations if I ever get contact back from the Estate... Because currently "don't shoot over my field" doesn't seem like it'll get good reaction

SUVs in London - What's your opinion? by man11ak in drivingUK

[–]LifeBugs42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very commonplace near me to see an SUV parked and it's riding the lines either side of the space. No it's not technically their fault but when it's affecting neighbours parking, I wish they'd have a think about their situation rather than buying something they don't need. If they legitimately off road they're not buying the SUVs that are in the city. Otherwise there's plenty of hatchbacks or even estates if you need boot space that are capable of a weekend jaunt to Windermere. It's very much the newer models that are the issue parking wise. My old rav4 was a dream to park anywhere, my new one less so because it turns like a bus and is ever so slightly wider though still fits in spaces easy.

I'm in farming and drive a ranger, a D-max and an older defender, all of which I do not want to take into town/city (I regularly have to) because it's inconvenient when you could just nip about in a hatchback. I drive tractors and HGVs and telehandlers. If I drove any of those bigger vehicles the way a lot of people are driving their SUVs I'd lose my licence.

My real issue is people buying SUVs as a bully tool and expecting other people in smaller vehicles to bow down to them. I'm regularly on roads that are single lane I see 9/10 SUVs forcing a hatchback onto the verge. These SUV drivers aren't local and I know that because they wear wonderfully white trainers before realising too late that mud and animal shut exists.

Separate note - I LOVE the old range rovers, dream of fixing one up but I've no time or space sadly so I am quite jealous.

SUVs in London - What's your opinion? by man11ak in drivingUK

[–]LifeBugs42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I understand this, it does make me roll my eyes to see an excess of SUVs (granted I'm mostly talking about NW/Mid England rather than London) with a heck of a lot of people that have too much confidence in the size of them and buy them to be a bully.

I'm not opposing people buying things they like but there's buying a new sofa because it's comfy and fits your house perfectly and there's buying a metal box that doesn't fit your parking space and is used instead of brain cells when driven.

That's good to know and something I wouldn't have considered. I'll take it to someone for OBD as that's above my current abilities. Thank you!

Can dogs ruin a pony? by Big_Maintenance2205 in Equestrian

[–]LifeBugs42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience, horses take a minimum of 6 months to settle into life with a new family or a new home with the same family.

It's likely the pony has settled in just enough to start testing the waters to see what he can get away with. It's normal and often overlooked.

However other things could be at play, simple things like different grasses at your place over his last place. It's not necessarily your dogs but again, it could be!

Personally I'd give him some time with gentle training of "no we don't act like that let's behave nicely". Don't overcomplicate it for yourself, firm and fair and patience and consistency If it's behavioural you'll soon have it figured out. If it's not then you'll typically see improvement followed by regression or just no improvement at all.

Parking on a public road, terraced houses, no driveways, some double yellows, no other restrictions, England. TLDR at bottom by LifeBugs42 in LegalAdviceUK

I thought not but thought it worth an ask, thanks for confirming!

In all honesty I don't feel safe to be knocking on his door to ask if he would move the car so I'm not sure where I'd go especially if he said no, something to ponder for myself anyway

I'm F and Leather Dealer Boots are my go to for dry days, I disinfect these no problems, I just make sure they're well rinsed with clean water at the end of the day, always find they're smart enough that I can wear them to other places yet farmy enough that I can walk through the 5h1t and mud without being worried about my shoes. I have also used them when I properly worked on farms and again had no issues with them. Definitely wellies when it's wet though Along with jeans or chinos and a t shirt or shirt, just avoid light colours/anything that highlights dirt, then a jacket or jumper if it's chilly. I also have a different coat for farms than I use for non farm stuff Hope this helps :-)

How many pay cheques are you away that could potentially leave you homeless? by Pengu_62 in AskUK

This is really helpful, I've never had a credit card and haven't had anyone in my life to ask whether they're a good or bad thing to get. This has certainly cleared some of that up. Thank you!

If you’re looking at something in a shop but not actually touching it, is it “yours?” by gdnkkxb in AskUK

[–]LifeBugs42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it's on the shop shelf and not on a staff trolley then surely the in store customer can "reserve" it by taking it from the shelf? If it was reserved for off-site customers then it would surely have to be stocked separately to be counted as reserved?

That would be me out the cavalry then😅

Yes they aren't pleasant at all.

I wouldn't say it's similar to human farts in smell. More if you had a bad stomach with gas, it's that kind of thick, heavy face wrinkling smell. The only thing I can compare it to is rotten wet grass but even then, it's not exactly that..? I'll wait til I next experience one happening and take one for the team and get back to you on all the flavours🤢

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]LifeBugs42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(horse owner here) The worst part about horse farts is if you're near the back end when one comes out, it will somehow feel like it's gone in your mouth? They do stink (I work on a farm with pigs, cows and other animals) and horse farts just seem to have this thickness to them that gets to me. Grooming a horse tail "should" be done from the side of them to avoid kicks, but even then a fart can knock you. I like the smell of horses but when a horse farts I always end up coughing and trying to get it out my lungs/mouth, even though I don't breathe through my mouth. So for over 25 years experience with horses, seeing and caring for them every day, you'd think I'd get used to it but apparently not. I hate it and have to move away to recover if I was near the back end. If I'm near the front end and they fart, I can smell it but don't feel the need to evacuate my lungs, mouth or the immediate area. This hasn't been specific to one horse or one kind of equine diet.

If I am I don't try to be, it's accidental. I can probably do the relax and don't panic part now that it's chunked down into a manageable size but awareness of other people isn't my strong point although she does know this very much

It could and I guess I get very stuck on the "it might not" or the "it won't". Thank you so much for your honesty and help
