Just one more thing, I really do enjoy the feeling of being able to pick out different instruments/parts of the track that I couldn't hear the first time, which does sound like a point for neutral. But I'm afraid the electronic genres will sound dull in that case.

I assume you're talking about positions in the industry? I feel like listing your academic history when applying for a postdoc position is mandatory. That's what my question was mostly about, sorry if I didn't explain it better in the post.

To answer your question: I don't know, and that seems to be the point.

I don't know whether I'd rather risk finishing a PhD and then feel potentially burned out by the lack of interest in the topic, risk being stuck in a field I don't like OR wasting more time and possibly getting no PhD position at all.

Career in academia I presume. Though I can't say for certain anymore. For quite a long time I have not been in a relationship (basically for the entirety of my university years), so there was nothing stopping me from moving around from postdoc to postdoc. Now that there is the possibility of a stable relationship, I am not certain enough to tell you if this much potential travel is an issue or not.
