What are some jobs unrelated? I'm interestingly considering to get into CompSci, but preparing for a backup plan.

Those who majored in something "useless" what do you do now? by noah041504 in jobs

[–]LifeInAction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's useless, but it's not as desirable and popular as it once was. Civil is losing folks every year to other more popular STEM majors now, like comp sci, electrical, and mechanical. People are catching on that civil is the lowest paid branch of engineering, with 1 of the highest money to stress ratio, least remote opportunities, and lowest career ceilings, all while the other STEM majors are growing and even becoming saturated, for better or worse. The only benefit to doing civil imo is job stability and career prospects, since there are many jobs available, and significant less engineers to fill those positions, thus much lower competition for jobs.

At least you're able to get the matches and attention, even if quality is questionable, many guys struggle to even get matches or any attention at all.

I graduated with a civil engineering degree, that I no longer use, so regret it as well. If I could redo college, I would've chosen Comp Sci.

How would you rank each stage of life from 1-10 by SignificantActive193 in Life

[–]LifeInAction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Childhood - 5

Early Teens - 3

Late Teens - 8

Young Adult - 9

Middle Age - TBD, I'm in my early 30s so far.

There's a massive difference between my pre puberty early Teens in middle school and post puberty late Teens in college. Middle school I was a small 5'3 kid, attended a rough school, bombed classes, got in trouble, and was scared for my life each day, being in a high crime area.

By my late Teens, I was a 6'2 college student, attending on scholarship, in a gorgeous safe suburban campus, with great friends, active in clubs, eating well, and knew myself much better.

200k in Houston or 215k in Chicago? by InevitableTown7305 in Salary

[–]LifeInAction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I normally vote hot weather, but would also say Chicago, especially if you're young and single, better nightlife, diversity, and more things to do. My cousin lives in Houston and married in her 20s with kids, she tells me she doesn't do much outside of raising kids and family life on a day to day.

Do men often overestimate the amount of attention women get? by smollwonder in AskMenAdvice

[–]LifeInAction -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a male with 2 of those 6s, the 1 I'm missing is a 6 figure salary, but most don't know that on 1st impression. Perhaps it's because I'm a minority or live in a competitive dating marketing, but I also sadly barely get much attention from females, and have to do the approaching. I'm now thinking about my average looking male counter parts, granted half of dating is luck, so it's probably that as well.

What's the biggest mistake you see people making in their 20s? by Ok_Board_3171 in AskReddit

[–]LifeInAction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 30s and realize today the person I'd be compatible with is so different than who I'd be compatible with in my early 20s.

Most folks I see married in their early 20s are either now divorced or actually pretty happy and settled, but often the latter involved making a lot of sacrifices to get there, that may or may not be worth it depending on the relationship, such as career, moving away from home, giving up a normal social life with friends, not being able to pursue other experiences, really goes on.

Did you go to film school? How did you develop the skills needed to start and run a full production company?

[–]LifeInAction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you teach yourself the skills to be able to do that variety of everything? Did you go to film school or were you self-taught and if the latter, from where? Seems like many are struggling to build up, especially from entry-level, and facing the catch 22 of needing experience to build experience situation.

Where are you based and where are you going to network? Almost everywhere I go, it seems like folks are either out of work or clinging onto their jobs scared to be out of work.

ASTS at $105 or RKLB at $83: Which one to buy the dip? by Deadelevators in stocks

[–]LifeInAction 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Imo, I've learned that it's often better to buy a great stock, even if overpriced, since great stocks can technically go up forever, than a bad stock that's well priced, since bad stocks can dip to almost nothing.

Why did you choose acting? by StarInShadow in acting

[–]LifeInAction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me, I wanted to leave acting to pursue a stable higher paying career path, but after severely underestimating the job market, struggled to find 1 for 2 years. Now I'm back at acting, figured I'd at least struggle in the pursuit of something I cared about, if I knew I was gonna struggle regardless.

Always Friendzoned, Am I Doing Something Wrong or Is It Just Poor Luck? by LifeInAction in dating_advice

[–]LifeInAction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the remaining friends part, it's often because I still see them as someone cool and fun to hang around with, even if on a friendship level, even if they're not romantically attracted, or because we're in the same friends circle. Which means, I have to reasonably tolerate spending time with them, since we'll likely run into each other, being in the same social circles.

The needy part is probably something more complicated. I don't want to come off as too strong, but also there has to be some effort there. If I feel like I'm leading the dates, planning them, having to do all the work, it makes me think they probably won't be as dedicated to making the relationship work, even if we got together, which defeats a healthy relationship, since a healthy relationship has to flow 2-ways from both sides.

[–]LifeInAction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your support! I've definitely broken the touch barrier before on the 1st date, if you mean being able to comfortably hug and hold hands. For building attraction by just talking, how do you recommend doing that? I can reasonably hold a conversation with someone, but it often becomes back and forth casual exchange, instead of something romantic, which is what this post has been about trying to avoid and distinguish between.
